You will need to use a cutaway stabilizer, not a tearaway. On t-shirts, I like to use the no-show cutaway stabilizer because it will not show through from the front of the garment. I do, however, float a piece of tearaway underneath the hoop. Once you have done a few t-shirts, you'll wonder why you waited so long! Good luck and have fun! *4U. ....Barb

I use the same method as Barb, but I add a water soluable to the top to keep the stitches from being buried in the t-shirt material.;)

other than the toilet paper covers, t-shirts are my specialty. I agree with jrob and Barb. On a white t-shirt, I use the flesh colored no show mesh cut-a-way. Also after you have finished stitching I iron on a fusible knit backing to the back side. My granddaughters say the stitches scratch. I saw this method used on expensive purchased t-shirts and baby items. When I first started embroidering T-shirts, I didn't use the water soluble topping, but it really makes the difference. I'm with Jerrilyn( on how to do t-shirts & knits. With hand knitted objects I use a heavy cut away stabilizer & pin, then baste the knitted object on the stabilizer. *4U

If I am ever in doubt I always go to Embroidery Library's tutorials and watch the videos or read their instructions. They are very good and you can find information for nearly everything there.
