I found one thread here by entering "towels" in the google custom search on the right side of the page. You can probably find more too.
I can give more info later but I'm on my way out the door.
You can also search on yahoo or your search engine for tips but I know you get the best help from Cuties!

Thanks very much for the information "sewmom". I'll try it - I tried the Google search engine and there was some lovely videos but not how to actually prepare the towel, what stabiliser to use etc. Love and blessings Chris

I do a lot of hand towels. First, I put a piece of cut-away in the frame getting it good and tight. Second, I spray that with the adhesive spray, third, I center the hand towel on the cut-away. fourth, I spray the hand towel with the adhesive and then top it with a piece of wash-away. I hope that this makes sense.

It not only messes up your needles but also your machine, so avoid it at all costs!

Sticky can also pull at the loops in the cloth when you try to take it off.

I prefer WSS to cutaway as I don't want stabiliser left on the towel. I like them to go soft as I don't like sratchy embroidery rubbing on my skin.

I do not use Spray adhesive. Used twice and both times my machine wind up in the shop.

Chris, you don't need to use spray adhesive when you embroider on towels or face washers.
Use 1 layer of iron on tear away on the back of the washer, and 1 layer of solvy on top. Hoop these.Then, depending on how many stitches are in the design, slip 1 or 2 layers of tear away, medium weight stabilizer under the hoop.
Remember, it will have to stand up to a lot of washing, so you need to stabilize it well, otherwise the design will become"limp".
Rule of thumb for any embroidery- 1 layer of stabilizer for every 10,000 stitches.

Thanks Ricky, that is good information to have.

This is my first try at embroidering on face washers, so I am a little bit tentative.

I hope to be able to do them later today. I'm just off to the Skin Specialist's - most probably will have to wait ages! Have my grand-daughter Jasana with me, so I'm hoping the Doctor (a lady) won't keep me waiting too long.

I haven't had hives since I've been on the Zyrtec, so she will now want me to wean off them! I hope I'll be alright.

Chris as i said last week. Just hoop your solvyweb then cut another piece and lay towel where you want emb, baste stitch top solyweb. Tada now embroider. Hope this helps :)

Thanks Pauline I couldn't remember if it was water soluble topping on top or bottom and whether to use and cutaway or tear away on the underside. After watching the videos I feel that I now know what to do.

I put tear away in the hoop.above, I put the towel and a sheet of avallon hydrosoluble outside of the hoop, but tie to the tearaway with pins. Before to begin to make the embroidery, I make basting stitches, and I can remove pins. The avalon is useful so that the stitches do not sink into the loops of the towel. I never use adhesive spray, I think that it is not good for the needles.

Hi Shirlene, yes I am so pleased with everyone's suggestions. Unfortunately - it's too late for me now to sew - it's after 8.30pm and I'm tired. Had Jasana all day and then when I dropped her off went to Mum and Dad's and they asked me to stay for dinner as Trevor is away until Friday evening. By the time I got home it was nearly 7.00. So I'm just checking the answers and will try and do some over the weekend. I'm off to work again tomorrow and Friday. Church cleaning on Saturday and then the Jazz with Mum and then Sunday church at my old church as it is the 50th anniversary of the building and then lunch. So by the time I get home on Sunday! Then Monday take Dad to have his blood taken to test his INR as he has Atrial Fribrolation along with a lot of other problems. At 1.15 I have a hair cut and I forgot I'm on OP=Shop duty at 1.00 till 5.00. So I've told Mum I'll get someone to pick her up and I'll get there around 2.00.

In the meantime Ben and Naomi's baby was due today! So I'll be on tenterhooks everytime the phone rings. Life is just very busy at the moment!

AND I'M SEMI-RETIRED!!!!!!!!!LOL I NEED A HOLIDAY!

HI, I DO A LOT OF TOWELS AND USE 2 PIECES OF TEARAWAY ON THE BOTTOM THEN TOWEL AND SOLVY ON TOP THEN HOOP THEM ALL . HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. FIND IT BETTER NOT TO EMBROIDER ON TOO THICKER TOWELS AS YOU LOOSE THE DESIGN IN THE PILE. HOPE THIS HELPS. LIN

Hi I use one layer of tearaway but it is a heavy weight one and i hoop that and then i line the side of the wash cloth to the side of the hoop place pin in centre while i hand tack or baste around hoop i use large tacking stitches as small ones just weaken the tearaway then remove pin and use solvie on top i don't hoop or tack that. Hooping all weakens the hoop and strips the thread of the screws after a while because of the bulk and pressure.

well you've got a lot of answers. Me myself I always hope the towel and fix watersolvie on top. it works fine for me. I hate face-washers because they are not easy to hope. so most of the time I try just a little design on these and fix them on sticky tear away that's in the hope. Or I open the sewingside and sew it later back in the model again,after the embrodery. *4u and good luck.

Hi Chris, When I do face cloths , I hoop it and just put wss on top, nothing under it. This works fine, as long as it is not the very thick towels.(then I use the basting stitching that Megs shared with us.

Thanks Yvonne, I have a 6x6 hoop with one of those spring loaded clasps and the bl..dy clasp snapped when I shut it. I'll have to get a new one. Anyway I just closed it as if it was on there and the hoop has still kept the face washer in place. Oh! my the machine has just finished my first face washer -t's 7.41 - it took 30mins for this design.

I've sent Meg an email with my hoop sizes, so I hope to received the basting stitches soon.

dear pennifold, when I do the small wash face towels, I hoop the stabilizer, then put the little towel over it and tape it with magic tape...soooooooooo easy. I do lots of things like that.Oh and I use solvy on top.****
