My husband gave me an early Christmas gift - a brand new laptop WITH ALL the latest software packages, (which he bought separately and installed everything) BUT my Bernina software version 4 ONLY runs on Windows XP and not on Windows 7! No option than to upgrade the Bernina dongle, and that I can only do when I get to SA again!

Thanks Daisy, although I am not looking forward to spend my embroidery time learning a new package!

Congrats with this nice gift. When this happened to me last year, and I have Vista, Bernina head office had to upgrade Version 5 and made it compatible with Vista. A dongle is very expensived. Let me know when u come to SA. Perhaps I can be of help. Will send u a sms. LOVIES

Thanks Marthie, Wanted to replace my dongle previously - the metal tip comes off and doesn't stay put even if I glue it, BUT can not buy another one, you HAVE to buy the software AGAIN, just to get another dongle!

This is the big issue. The software is actually worth nothing. And the new Version 6 will be from R19 000 and upwards. Thats why I bought Embird as well. Cheaper and I can see the pictures of my designs without going into my Bernina software.

How NICE of the hubby for the laptop, don't you just love coming home to find that computer person in your home has torn apart your computer and tells you he's updating everything. UG... between my late husband and two sons, ALL really good computer literate to the point of building them from scratch, have done this to me and ALL I want is the simple stuff!!
So far not too many are happy with Windows 7 so good luck!!

I now the feeling! Vista (according to husband) was bad news, so let's see how Windows 7 goes.

Oh, Dolly, how I know the feeling! The ad I saw for Windows 7 was a MAN going on and on about how he could hook up his TV, stereo and hair dryer or something to run on Windows 7 and make everything compatible, and he was so excited! I laughed, thinking, oh boy, another guy thing, I don't even HAVE any of those things he's so excited to be hooking up, hee hee hee. Sigh, and to think I thought XP was bad, I really liked 2000 Pro the best. Well, no, I liked DOS, but if you want pictures.... hee hee hee, hugs, Marji

Suzette, can't you have your dear husband set it to XP compatible mode? It worked for me with some other software I have.

Oh, Suzette, I do hope you get it to work! I never never want to upgrade anything again, personally. We have a saying here in USA, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I wish someone would tell Microsoft, hee hee hee. Hope that translates ok, hugs, Marji

What a great gift! I hope that you are able to find a way to make it work with your Bernina software. I know that XP has a "compatability wizzard" so that you could use older software with XP. Does Windows 7 have the same thing. You could set it to work in XP mode for that particular program??

Hi Cuties, Thanks for all the replies. Husband went on internet and it looks as if Embird @ R2000 will be the best option. With the software he purchased, it does not give him the option to do Windows XP compatible. Will make some time tomorrow evening to explore further. Enjoy your machine and the downloading! Little time now for all those planned Xmas projects!
