kids, like trick and treat. The kids go when the evening comes from house to house with a little lantern(mostly selfmade). They sing a song about St.Maarten and everywhere they get some sweets. So I'm going to make little bags with sweets for the kids now. Hope they have a great St.Maarten and the rain will stop. Greetings Gerry

Nice to make them bags. I never know how many children will come around as the majority go straight to the village centre (no front gardens and houses closer together). So I usually go for the healthy option and buy a lot of mandarine oranges (we happily eat the leftovers afterwards, sweets would linger in a cupboard till next year).

mandarines are better I agree, but my own kids never liked that.Because at home they were always allowed to take fruit if they wanted. So they always said the mandarin can I get all the time I want. but you are wright it's healthier.here I mostly can count a little bit how many kids will come. greetings Gerry

Happy St. Maarten's Day to you. Thanks for sharing a custom from the Netherlands.
Hope your rain will stop too. It's pouring here on the east coast of the USA, as we're getting some rain from a hurricane.
Below is a link with more information on St. Maarten's Day.
