When mine start to rip, I just use Scotch tape on them. When I know I have to use the same pattern many times, I put tape over the dots and notches that need marking. Then my spiked marker roller doesn't rip up the pattern.

I do two things: one; I trace on to med wt plastic sheeting (DH had some lying around from an insulating job)...this way if I need another size...like if I gain weight hehehe...I still have the original.
two; if I have a pattern that really works and need to preserve it( without the bulk from the traced plastic) I iron it onto cheap iron on stabilizer (for sewing) then cut out the size that I want. It is also very flexible but preserves the original markings.

After drafting master to paper i buy at the newpaper printers these are end of rolls of paper i then trace the patterns to interfacing.however you can always just use the end rolls i buy mine for $6 and there are many many meters on these rolls and for that price it is no great loss as they get old but as i use mine over and over i do prefer to use the interfacing as it doesn't stretch wrinkle or tare and using tape on a flimsie pattern can distort the shape and size of the pattern not a good practice.

I have a pattern I have used for 10+ years for a jacket for my husband. You can guess what the original pattern looks like by now. I use interfacing and when I cut out a Jacket I use the left over scraps to cut out a pattern piece. That way it will never tear and really doesn't stretch if I take care of it.

See what happens when you spend 50 cents on a pattern? Bet your $15 dollar pattern didn't tear. They just don't make 'em like they used to! I heard duct tape works for everything! :) No, really scotch tape works fine.

I have also ironed the pieces flat first then I iron onto freezer paper....I also use tape :)

I user paper for adds (on walls)it is very big sheets of paper and very strong, i copy my pattern on it with transfer paper and cut with the seem lines, so it is very easy to re-use.
I store them in plastic pockets for school and in a "classeur" in french. excuse my bad english, i hope you will anderstand...

I cut all my patterns out on thin vilene. I start from the outside and cutit out from say size 44(18) to size 32 (8), then I have all the sizes cut out for when I needed it. Love Marie.

That is the reason I don't use pattern. I draft my pattern on fabric. Take time to learn but never tear.

I use the brown craft paper sold in dollar stores. It comes in a roll. You can fold it, mark on it, etc. and it never tears. I just fold them up and put the pattern pieces in ziplock bags.

We have polytrace its like interfacing. I trace and cut out the size of the pattern on it with all the markings. Then store with orginal in plastic pockets. It works really well and can be ussed over and over again.
