First of all, I have a BIG commercial 15 needle machine. I couldn't hoop the case, so I used spray glue to glue my hoop to the suitcase, and put 2 pcs. of heavy cut away under. I had to stand there and hold the suitcase the entire time while it was stitching. I would have never tried this with a reg, sewing/embroidery machine as one would have to put it down each time to change the tread colors. With my 15 needle machine, I could just hold onto it and let it stitch, and it would change the colors for me so I could just hang on to it. This was all trial and error, but it was my case and if it didn't work, I felt it was okay. I would NEVER try to do this for a customer. Good luck if you decide to give it a try.

Thank you very much for sharing. That's great that it worked for you. Still not sure how to hoop the gym bag though. Maybe spray adhesive or sticky back stabilizer.

On the kids back pacs, I hoop just the bag, and than put cut away under the hoop, It has worked well for me.

Could you tell me which commercial machine you have? I really want to get one, but only have experience with one brand. Looking for pros and cons before I take the leap. I am very impressed with the AmayaXT by Melco. But it's a huge investment.

They are all a BIG investment. There are pros and cons to every machine.. Its not only the investment of the machine, but all the other things you need to go with it. Between all my threads, my backings, my big hooping station, extra hoops, serger, 3 sewing machines and big embroidery machine, I have easy invested 25-30,000 dollars in all my equipment. There is a lot more to it than just buying the machine, plus, what software are you going to use? Thats another investment, they might give you the basic with the machine, but thats all it is, is basic. I'm thinking about trying some new software, but not sure what I want yet, I'm thinking Embird. Good luck, and THINK before you buy. I would like to put my hands around my dealers neck, but I would go to jail, so I won't do that. I have sent in a complaint to the main company but it doesn't so any good!

Still curious as to which brand your commercial machine is. I have done a bit of research and am aware of the additional expenses. I currently have a Pfaff 2170, 2124, 1475, 4862 serger and a Viking Mega quilter w/ Inspira frame. I love them all but after working in an Embroidery shop and using commercial machines, I realize just how limited I am. And I hate thread changes!!! So a commercial machine is on the horizon. I have embroidered on softside luggage, backpacks, boots, shoes, you name it at the shop . But I am no longer employed there and I want to have the ability to do those items in my home. We used Renaisance machines at work. Not the best machines and they are now out of business.
