I finally have my computer back with a external hard drive. Do you save straight onto the external hard drive or on to the computer first. Thanks. I am still learning about computers.

I save to my computer and once a week save the lot to the external hard drive as a back-up.

I save my designs to my computer first with a back up copy on my external so I never lose my designs. I work from my computer for my designs to use. Hope this helps.

I do it the same way as mops and mommajo. That way my virus software scans what I am saving BEFORE I download it to my external.

I download the designs on a USB stick and once a week I backup on my external hard drive.

I save them to my computer hard drive. Periodically I backup the whole system to an external drive. Also, when I remember, I also save just my designs to a USB memory stick.

I keep all my embroidery patterns on the external, but I have heard from several people say that you should have a back up of the external, that they can crash just like your computer.

Gayle, I save to my external and also to my PC through a backup to both. Whatever your space allows and works for you. I also copy mine to DVD once a month.

I put all my designs on my external, and then use another external to back up. I don't trust my computer... :-)

I save to a flash drive, then make a cd at the end of the month. That cd gets copied to the external, so everything I have on it is also hard copied. Some I copy to my laptop, since I now have lots of gigabytes to fill. My old one had 20!
