in the shower and was still blow drying the hair when he arrived - I can move very fast and it's a good thing I have short hair. It's been hot, humid and sticky here today so the hair is a bit flat.

Anyway we are converting bedroom 2 into my sewing room so I don't have all the stuff out in this back room all the time.

And I'll be able to shut the door on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are renovating the kitchen this year and so everything has been reorganised so that we can have extra storage space.

Once I am all organised I'll post some more pictures - won't be till mid year. In the meantime I can transfer all my fabrics one these cupboards into bedroom 2.

Just wanted to share this with you all - I know some of you have some wonderful workrooms.

Love and blessings Chris

Congratulations. It is nice to have a special room and be able to shut the door. Look forwad to your pictures.
I see you only live just over 3 hours drive away from me. I just love Newcastle.

Thanks Moyed - gee you're quick I was still downloading the pictures when you replied to the post.

I love Newcastle too - I see you are having your festival in Tamworth soon aren't you? My daughter Amy went there a few years ago for the Music festival - unfortunately it's too hot for me in January. Why do we do it to ourselves and live in such a hot area?

Never mind, it's nice to have air conditioning isn't it?

Also congratulations on finally getting your subscription organised. Great place for designs here.

No Pauline that room faces the west and with the afternoon sun it gets too hot. Trevor actually has that set up with all his TAFE and TRACA work. He loves it down there.

You're sure right about the heat - I hate this weather and can't wait for a bit cooler - what about our poor northern hemisphere people they are having the worst winter in ages.

Good morning Shirlene, it's 9.00am Thursday morning and it's been raining most of the night and now is very overcast and humid. Weird weather all over the world.

Just heard on the news that Haiti has had a dreadful earthquake with maybe 100,00 lives lost - God help them.

I have all my fabrics alphabetised! Isn't that anal?

How do you alphabetise fabrics?
by pennifold 18 Jan 2010
I put everything in colour - e.g. Aqua, Black, Blue, Brown, Cream, Fawn, Green, Grey, Lemon etc. etc. etc. Clever eh?

Chris, it is so nice to have a space for your own, I have one too and love it. My husband made me some wheels under an old table so I can move my table with the machines on it when people want to sleep on this room. This is so handy. Good luck with the renovation.

What a great idea with the wheels under the table. Anything that makes things easier I'm all for it.

Thanks for commenting.

Thats what we did with our 3rd bedroom. It is now becoming my sewing room. When the kids leave the nest and you don't want to downsize, we change to accomadate our needs. We made our 2nd bedroom into a home office for my husband. It is nice to be all on the same floor rather than down in the laundry room. Hugs Lynn

Ain't that the truth with downsizing?

We did that when we came to this little house. We still have two other bedrooms upstairs that we can utilise if needed.

I am looking forward to reorganising this room!

I'm sop happy for you! And so jealous! LOL! My crafts need a room of their own, too. Unfortunately, I have to share my bedroom with the crafts and the computer. YIKES! Can you say MESSY?!?! That's an understatement!

Enjoy your new space! I 'm sure you are going to love it!

Thanks Colleen, I can understand your situation. It makes it very difficult when you have so many other people in the house to share rooms with.

I am very lucky in that there is just Trevor and me here in this little home. Oh! and of course our beautiful Bella (Sheltie) - not looking too beautiful at the moment I shave her yesterday and she looks like a drowned rat!

Woohoo! You won't know yourself, lucky girl!
Will you still be able to watch the Kookaburras?

I would love something like that but even though the kids have gone, the MIL is taking the second bedroom and 3rd bedroom is barely large enough to hold our computer gear, so I'll just have to be patient until we move back to my home and build a first floor extension. (Plans and dreams)
Hugs n roses, Meganne

Thanks Meg - Yes I can still see the Kookaburras from that room as it's at the end of the house and looks out over the back lawn. The huge gum tree will be to the left!

Won't it be great back at your home on the central coast with an upstairs extension?

By the way; what is an Oz Robes man?
by pennifold 13 Jan 2010
Hi Jacqui - Oz Robes is the name of a company here in Newcastle that install wardrobes. They put in the supports for cupboards, shelves, drawers and all sorts of baskets etc. so that you can hang all your clothes, shoes, coats etc.

Because I am a Patchworker and have a wardrobe full of fabric out in my back sewing room/computer area I asked him to put lots of shelves in. Once I transfer all the fabric from out here into the "new" room it will all be in one place.

The idea started because we are going to renovate our kitchen and then we had to move everything else.

Now I understand; robes = wardrobes. It sounds like you will have a wonderful time, designing all of the new spaces! Please send more photos, when you find time.

Yes, Lillian I am thankful for this room. Trevor and I and Bella our Sheltie are the only ones here now, so we have plenty of rooms free!

I am very aware of how fortunate I am, I understand a lot of us "sewers/embroiderers" have to work in very cramped conditions.

Yes, Yvonne it will be nice to be able go down there and just shut the door!

Trevor has been out and "chatted" with some people about getting me an 1hp air conditioner for the room. It's only about a 10'x12' bedroom so it won't need a big one, but I'll have to have some sort of cooling. I don't mind the cold, it's just the heat I can't stand - post menopausal woman that I am! HA HA HA HA HA!

Chris, I am so excited for you! We are going to change around my sewing room some, since I got a 2nd embroidery machine for Christmas. So I can make room for it! Right now I donot have a place to set it up! Can't sew with it in a box!!! Hahaha! But we will not do remodeling, just switching around. (And removing things that donot belong!) Hahaha!

by pennifold 13 Jan 2010
Thanks Judy, lucky you getting a 2nd embroidery machine! I gave my first one to my younger daughter Amy and I don't think she's used it much. Maybe once this baby is here she may try things out. It was the first Husqvarna embroidery machine I bought and it's only about 5 or 6 years old now!

Gee, I tell you what when Trevor and I went through all the rooms - one by one, the amount of "stuff" one collects over the years was amazing.

So we have been ruthless and I've taken everything away that we don't really need and given them to my local Op Shop (run by my church)in Redhead. Once one room was done of course it steamrolled to another room etc. etc. etc. So my huge cupboard that is currently in this back sewing/computer room has one side full of Christmas things and the other side has all the fabric etc. So, once we get the kitchen done we can transfer everything from out here down into my "new" sewing room.

I can't wait!

Lucky girl! This will be awesome. I wish I would find the need, energy, desire to "clean" out my house. I do have a lovely sewing room already, but I need to clear out somethings from every room here and especially the attic.;)

Thanks Jerrilyn, yes it will be awesome, once finished. Trevor and I decided to "Spring clean" the house but in summer time here! Ha! Ha!

It was very cathartic doing this exercise and we have now ended up with only things that we really want to keep.

Go on, give the attic a try - it will be fun - but be warned you'll come across things that bring back memories and you waste a bit of time reminiscing!

That was early! It's school holidays here and I'm not getting up early when I don't have to, lol. Love the wardrobe, those shelves look just perfect for organising your 'stash'.
I will living in vicarages for the next many years, so I'm having to think 'outside the square' and create transportable storage/workspaces. The sewing/study in this new place is coming along nicely - still working on it though..

Lucky you, I know you will be in vicarages for quite some time and you have to get used to living in "different" styles of homes. Never mind, one day you'll have your own place. Glad your area is coming along nicely. Chat again later. Love Chris

Wow - wish I could add all of that to my sewing room. I wish I were close enough to you- I have connections to get what we call mini split A/C units here. I have one in my sewing room, but don't use it much, and also one put in my work office. They are nice, for they are not noisy, and do not have to put put into the window. Plus they can be used with the house electrics. I guess it pays sometimes to work for an air conditioning distributor. LOL

This is a wonderful way to organize all of your sewing stuff. Have fun organizing. I have a small bedroom that is just bursting with all of my stuff. I am thinking of moving it into a larger bedroom so I have more room, but the larger bedroom doesn't have as good of lighting..less windows and lights. The larger bedroom is twice as large and has 3 times the closet space! Maybe I should just see about more more lighting for it.
Thanks for sharing. Yes, post more pictures when you have moved and organized everything.
