The card reader for the 9700 is built into the machine and uses a flash card adapter with 68 pins. There is no separate reader to be plugged in. There is a cable connection with 9 pins.

The card reader is used to read designs from your computer to the card. You plug it into the computer, not the machine. You then take the card out of the reader, once you have downloaded the design onto the card, and put it into the adapter, Then you put it in the machine.
Now, unless your MC9700 works totally different to my MC300E that is how you do it.
Really, if you do have any queries about your machine, the best place to go to would be your dealer.

That is exactly how it works on the MC9700.

i dont understand yr Qn. u need to get a CF Card Adapter from Janome dealer. Its very tough to find that in the market now and if u can, pls buy extra. If u happened to ask one, pls let me know too because i'm not in US and its impossible to find it now in my country. Plus if u can, get extra CF card too. I was told too high speed cannot be read at all by the machine

For yr computer, get a external reader that can read CF card. After reading or transfer of data then u put the CF card into the CF Adapter and insert the whole thing into the machine slot

Check out ebay for purchasing the CF card adapter. That is where I got mine. You can also find the memory cards there. The ones in the stores have too much memory for the machines. I would suggest using anywhere between an 8MB to a 128MB memory card. I have not had any problems with those sizes.
