Is there a way to download words for free? I have a brother S270D and the ped basic. I used it to download some font but it won't let me select more than one at a time, they aren't lining up right

Welcome to the Cute family Luvbug.

You need to use your software to line up fonts into words or you can use the text fonts that are installed in your machine. PEDbasic should also allow you to create fonts but then you still need to form each letter into a design.

Depending on the text you want, there are many free text designs also but it takes time to find the ones you want.

If you go to the link at the top of the page here, click on DESIGNS BY CUTIES it will take you to pages full of designs digitised by other members here. There are many fonts available to download, but you will still need to create a text design from them, in your embroidery software.

I do hope this information helps you understand some of the complexity of creating text designs.
Hugs n roses, Meganne

I'm very new to this - so even with the ped, I still need an embroidery software like embird or something like that? I've been looking at ones that have some free trials just not sure which one to give a go.

http://planetembroidery.com/ I use this website. Register for free. Lots of free fonts to make words. Others are very reasonable. You get to try the word to see if it fits your hoop and change lettering to different size and try again, etc before you actually download it. You get about 10 downloads a day. I have same machine and use PED Basic. Good Luck. Nanc

Ok - so I tried this and it keeps telling me that I don't have enough credits to get it - and then it gives me the option to pay for the credits. So am I in the wrong place to get the free ones?

You have to go through the list of fonts and it will tell you if it costs credits. There are several that are 0 credits. Easy once you get the hang of it. Good luck.

Hi and welcome to Cute. I am not sure how PE basic works, but my PE design lets me use any font in my computer. Sometimes when learning something new it takes a bit of time to get used to it. Whatever good luck and Happy sewing
