What a wonderful site! Everyone is SO helpful! Here's one more - what's a good starter software? I have the 270D and PED Basic. I'm looking to mainly do names and small designs for baby gifts.

I'd suggest PE-Design since you already have a Brother machine. It has an image to stitch wizard which is cool if you dont mind cutting jump stitches, and want a design done quickly..in time if you decide to learn manual punching PE-Design will also be useful then too :) Its pricey, but worth it.
You could try out free software first if you like digitising: Sophie Sew is free to use. You may decide that this suits your needs and you might not ever need anything else :) Good luck :)

luvbug,u r going to get lots of answers, me I'm an Embird fan & that is what I have you can try it 30 days free, not having used any others I cannot compare. Listen to all that's said & try to get one free for at least 30 days & then make up your mind what's best for you. *

Welcome Luvbug, I too, am an Embird user and if you get the Font Engine for the program you will have the fonts from your computer to use. Embird is it's own program so after making designs you would transfer them to your PED card. Good luck!!
