Suzette this is very interesting! Anyway, ants are not good for gardens. I hope you find a way to fix it. Love,Yoriko

Are they fire ants?

What are fire ants?
Fire ants are terrible! They bite you and you get a blister, then you itch for DAYS. And it burns like fire when they bite you. They make HUGE mounds above their nests in the ground. And are hard to get rid of. Hope you never have them!
Oh my!!!

Wow! what colourful beetles they are! here's a site that might help with identifying them or at least be interesting for anyone who likes to see lots of different beetles:- http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/beetles

They don't really look like ants to me. Do you have an agriculture program or college that you could call. I'd try to look them up and try to identify them especially in that large number.

Well u can rule out fire ants, they are definitely not that. I agree with gerry, they look more like beetles than ants but I've never seen any like that. An entomologist could help you since they specialize in insects. *

I wonder if a garden center would be able to tell you what they are. Scoop some up and bring them there and have them take a look.

I agree with Gerry and Lillian I think they are a beetle. When I enlarged the picture I could see more of a beetle shaped body than that of an ant. Good luck with trying to work out what they are. They certainly are colourful.

Thanks Noah, I feel slightly better about them!

I agree, they aren't ants. Ants have a "waist" and these don't. Are they doing any damage?

No, not that I can see! Wish they would go for a walk to the neighbour's

Send your photo's to Garden Centre and then we can all hear what you have there. I have never seen anything like that here in our garden.

They don't look like red ants to me, as ants have a segmented (?) body. In South Carolina, where my daughter lives, there are red ants which sting and can be dangerous, but these don't look similar. Perhaps you can find the name of these insects, online.

They remind me of aphids but the wrong color. I really don't know bugs.

I might look like aphids or bugs on the photos, but believe me, the way they move, looks more like ants. Still confused, will try to look-up an email address to send the photos for clarification.
