we all could read the sad message about Miss Loretta, Shirlene's dear mom. My suggetion : let's give the quilt in progress for miss Loretta to Shirlene, to show here how much we loved her mom too!

That is a nice idea. Or donate it to the nursing home for giving Loretta such good care.If they wish they could put it up on a wall in their community room for all to see.

Oh that would be a wonderful thing for the staff and residents to have a lasting memory of Loretta.
I would rather see Shirlene have it.
It would just be another wall ornament gathering dust in the nursing home, but I think it would mean the world to Shirlene.
As much as we all love Miss Loretta, hell I can only imagine how Shirlene must be feeling and how much this would mean to her as a lasting keepsake.

I very much like Ricky'sn idea about donating quilt to N.H. Shirlene will always have things to remember Loretta by, the N.H. will not. I have seen this done & watched as visitors would comment on it remembering the person it commemorated. A picture & message was framed & hung with the quilt aong with a note on who had done the quilt. This way Loretta would b remembered by many along with the cute Fmly who cared enough to lovingly fashion a quilt for someone they cared about. Machine embroiders all, people will see & understand what can b done with an embroidery machine & love.
I never thought of it that way.
But I'm afraid, from what I have been told by N.H. staffers here, once the family no longer comes around the (more) valuable gifts given to the N.H., in honour of someone who has passed, usually disappear.
Maybe theft/greed is not the same problem there as it is in the N.H's here.

I retired from being Director of Nurses at a Long Term & Rehab Facility Meg. Prior to that Asst. DON for 5 yrs. & it all depends on the NH. Most,if they are a nice facility keep things for yrs. like this. Use them for decor to show that they do care or cared for their residents

Dear Gerry,
That's the same thought that I had; like the idea from Ricky too. Since I didn't make a block for the quilt, I did not e-mail Deanna, but it's up to those who contributed to the quilt, to decide where it should go.

I sent Deanna a private message with the same thought. I think it would be a fitting tribute to her mother and I think it would have special memories for Shirlene.

Gerry great minds think alike, I just got off the phone to Meg as her internet is down for at least 24hrs. I said the same thing to her. I think Shirlene would like that and when down she can wrap herself up in it and feel her Mothers Love :)

yes that's what I had in mind, so she can feel our love we had for her mom too, as a comfort for her. personly I think it can be more a comfort for shirlene to know that we all loved her mom so much ,that we wanted to make this quilt for her. I think the staff in the residence will think it's pretty but they don't feel the love love and power for miss loretta from all cuties in it, something Shirlene definately will.

Its such a sad thing to hear about Miss Loretta. When I read about the cuties making a quilt for her, I felt a warmth surround me. I thought at the time, and please don't take it the wrong way... how when it was complete and given to Miss Loretta, that when she did pass on to be with our Dear Heavenly Father, that she be covered in the quilt and take it to heaven with her. My family had a similar experience so this is why I thought that. My dearest friends, daughter Lisa had just finished a memory quilt for her new Mother-in-Law. She put pictures of all her family on the quilt and her Mother-in-Law was so taken by Lisa's thoughfulness. It wasn't a month later that she (the MIL)suddenly passed away, so the family thought that by covering her with the quilt, her family would always be with her.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be great if we could get the photostitch design Shirlene did of her Mum and put that in as the centre block.
I would gladly stitch it out.

I think Shirlene should have the quilt. It would be a comfort to her when she is missing her mom. Shirlene would also have much more appreciation and respect for the quilt.

I think this should be made into a memory quilt for Shirlene. Miss Loretta's picture can be digitized by one of our expert digitizers and placed in center of quilt. I would be happy to stitch out the picture, but I can't digitize it.

I also PM deanna about giving the quilt to Sherlene and she answered that she would discuss this with Sherlene and I think it would be good to let her decide what she would like as I think we all have the same idea
