Beatie, usually when the red x appears, it means that the photo you have uploaded is too large. If you read the size requirements for upload, and then right click on your photo and read the properties, you can see if it is too large or not. You might have to make it smaller in your photo software for it to show up.

Also, just FYI, Veronika is working on the websites, and that may be why some of the different functions are not working, or running slowly. Be patient, because it takes a lot of work to maintain these sites. If something doesn't work, try it again later. Right now I had no problem downloading from the homepage. As far as your projects you probably will have to do it again with a smaller picture size. Good luck
