I have noticed that many have a cute picture of themselves or an icon next to their comment- how do I go about doing that? I have Windows 7 and I am very new at this.

click on the 'my account' link, it is on the left upperhand of the page --above the 'my favorite topics light yellow box'
follow the links from there, and you will find a place to browse for a pic from your files.

had to go to it to get the wording:
so then you clik 'my profile'
then 'personal info'
and then you see a box for 'my pciture'

Welcome Cathleen,you can also add pictures to this tab (Community) at the moment there is some work being done and you can't add them in the Personal tab.

Welcome to a great bunch of people. You will find it addictive. I personally took of my e-mail. If someone wants it they can send me a personal message. The problem is that anyone can see it without having to sign into Cute and there was problems in the past.
