roof rafters and right down the wall between the bathroom and the laundry.
It's going to cost $4,500 to eradicate and treat the rest of the house and they have to drill holes, every 8 inches, through our beautiful, newly laid, ceramic tiles on the back patio. Thankfully it's only around the perimeter, but still, we will have to replace a whole row of tiles right around the full length and width of the whole patio.
Not to mention what it will cost to replace the damaged timber framework and quite possibly our bathroom tiles.
I am so upset and can't stop thinking about those rotten little monsters munching away at our home while we wait for the exterminators to come and do the treatment.

Ow - I know I used to work for a pest control company and termite bonds were so expensive but then they only covered subterranean termites and not wood termites which fly! I hope that they will get to it quick. do they have to tent the house or will the ground treatment work? Is your house old if not maybe you got a termite bond when it was built that you can go back on for some financial help? I really feel for you, here in Florida they are a real problem. So sorry but hopefully all will end well and quickly.

Good luck - years ago we had a similar problem but not so severe. The termites were only in the skirtingboards around the floor. At least we kept all the tiles. They just drilled holes for the treatment and sealed it. We were told then that we were lucky they did not yet go to the roof. So you have all my sympathy. I remember that we had to pay off the bill as it was then also very expensive.

If it's not one thing Meg, it's another. :-( I fought termites badly in San Diego. Now I'm in Texas where EVERYTHING is bigger! lol... wonder if the termites support that theory too.

Meganne if you have a home depot there you can probably do it yourself for less than 500.00, this is what my friend did and her house is termite free now.Good luck.

we had to rebuild our whole back area about 10 years ago due to being eaten out with those little blighters, they made a terrible mess. so i know what you are going through.

Know the feeling Meg, we had them here in our cottage they ate the skirting boards and around the doors and some window sills, we bought the expensive stuff and did it our self. Seems to have stopped them in the cottage, probabally moved on else where tho. Little stinkers.

Oh No !!! Those White ants do a lot of damage . I was out in the garden yesterday and I found a ? nest at the base of a old tree trunk!! To late to ring some one and it is Show day here today so will need to waite till tomorrow Good luck

Oh Meganne this is awful. It's like you can't catch a break. Do you have insurance to cover the damage? We have a contract with a Pest service that inspects the house bi-annually, and they are liable for damages if they miss anything during an inspection. I hope they have overestimated your damages. Maybe it's not that bad. You deserve a miracle.

Oh I hate those little buggers Meg, they can do so much damage & you are right it's very costly. Hasn't been too long ago that my son n laws brother had to jack his entire house up & replace the sills it was resting on because of those terrible bugs. They are really bad here in the south. My hubby coming from up North kept saying "it's treated wood, it'll be okay" Ha!! They eat it treated or not in the south. *

Oh no! My daughter went through this last year, and they had a termite bond on their house, so they did not have to pay for the remodel and retreat, but she had just had her house remodeled. So, we know what you are going through. She lost the tile in her bathroom, and had to have all of it redone, plus 2 bedrooms, and the office. What a mess. Widh you luck, Sweetie.

So sorry Meg to read about those little buggers. We had them in that back tree near our house and had to have them removed twice! They are nasty little critters. I do hope you are covered by house insurance and even the pest control people who you've used before (if you have) should come to the fore!

Worse luck no insurance as Termite inspectiona are totally different to ordinary pest inspections and Ray has never had one done.
We believe they came from the next door neighbour's as she had a bush house torn down last year that she said had rotted through, I think it was more likely 'eaten' through, but she isn't the kind of person who would ever admit to that! It's the only thing we can think of that could have been a main colony and once they're disturbed they move on.
Oh well, better to find them now than the day we would be moving house.

thank goodness you caught them before they did any damage to more electrical stuff in your home..it could have set the house on fire..oh my goodness I don't even want to think about that...oh goodness gracious...prayers and hugs to you...but on the upside of things..once the treatment is in place it keeps ALL pest out of your home...Not one spider or other bug did we have after they treated our home...

Sorry to hear about the termite problem . Here is something to think about when your place is being sprayed or what ever they are going to use before the replacement of the damage,keep your cats ,dogs or other pets away where they can not be contaminated with the poisons the pest exterminators use. We knocked our old house down in 94 & moved back with 3 dogs ,bought another puppy about a year later, which died of liver cancer within 4 yrs & the other 3 all died of different forms of cancer over the next 5 or 6 yrs .We blamed the poisons that the council made us have sprayed around the house to comply with the building regulations.We lived in the old house without spraying for 16 yrs -the 6month old dog we moved in with was always healthy & had to be put down just before we moved back in -old age the cause.

That is really sad.
Thankfully in Australia they guarrantee the chemicals to be safe even with pregnant women, children and pets. They use these chemicals in hospitals, so I am relying on this information to be accurate.

So sorry to hear of your problem. I can relate. We have had to call the pest control back again for roof rats. We had them in the roof over the kitchen over the Xmas period. Luckily they did not get into the house. It is horrible thinking obout little critters running around. We also have racoons in our garden and we are afraid to go out there as they do not seem to be afraid of us. Hopefully they find a better home somewhere else. Keep your chin up and hopefully you will be able to giggle about it in months to come. Thanks for all you do for us as well.

Well the first exterminator quoted $4,500 and wouldn't be coming to do the treatment until 28th April. a whole 18 day wait while those little blighters eat our house.
Anyway, today I rang another exterminator, they are coming tomorrow to give me a quote and they could do the treatment by the weekend.
Naturally I told him I already had one quote but that I was worried about waiting so long for the treatment.
He asked me who the first pest control was and I told him.
Not ten minutes after we hung up, the first lot phoned me to move up the treatment to this Thursday.
Conincidence????
I think not.
I'll see what they quote tomorrow.

I certainly can sympathize. We had carpenter ants get into our home and after several contractor extimates, it was cheaper to demolish our home and build a new one. This was four years ago and I am paranoid now every time I see an ant or bug near the foundation. Best of luck to you. Barba

Maybe you don't have to rip up those tiles, I was over at a neighbours the other day and I said I liked the effect of her tiles and she told me that it was a plug used by the exterminator when he did their house (in Brissie Qld). I think that's worth looking at! Tile shops probably sell them.

Thanks for the suggestion Kaz, but we didn't have to go through the sun room tiles after all.
We called a different exterminator who said that that treatment would not have worked anyway, because our ground is too wet for a liquid barrier treatment.
The bathroom wall tiles may be a different story though as the stain from the termite mud is coming through the grout. Hopefully we will get away with just re-grouting some tiles but we won't know until we can access the wall from the other side, and that won't happen until all termite activity has ceased.
I'm no longer upset or worrying about it, because it is out of my control and what will be, will be. We will just have to fix what ever needs fixing and I have resigned myself that we may have to stay here a while longer.
