Hallo Twee - yes it would be interesting also to hear which software the digitizers would recommend for beginners. I have software Creative and have considered for sometime to get a sorting program like sewicons but recently found out I had a module in my package that does just that. I've started to organise my designs now and have come quite far with it. Ps Comment about my digitizing skills I'm still bit of a novice.

I like the artista v6. It is similar to using programs such as photoshop that works in layers.

I use Embird.. I started with their 30 free trial,
I was so amazed at what I could do.. with time and patience, that I got the full version.
It really does make you appreciate the good digitizers at there.. you will come to respect their work even more when you know what goes into it
even though I now digitize, I do still purchase alot of designs from my favourite designers :-)
I would say its about trial and error.. ask for help here as we all help each other..
most of all have fun you will amaze yourself.

You'll find answers to your question when you use the tag 'software' on the left. So many times questions about what software cuties used were answered, recommendations given, lots of useful advice and information; it's all there.
Even the easiest program takes time to master and the learning curve may vary from one brand to another, but it all comes down to logical thinking and perseverance. I've just spent over 40 hours on a design that's still not quite what I want it to be - I knew beforehand it was a real challenge but even so I'm amazed at the time it cost me.

Yes sometimes you really have to wonder whether all the effort is worth it.
I spent four all nighters digitising a very difficult school logo for my Grandson's school shirts.
Very tiny, difficult to perfect, text gave me no end of trouble and I ended up moving stitches individually to get the letters right.
What makes it worthwhile is that all three GK's will go to the same school so the designs will be used for the next 14 school years, whereas a design I worked on for three all nighters (24 hours plus), got cancelled. What a waste!!!

I sure hope you'll have to stitch out that logo umpteenth times to make it worth your while. I hate the lettering in logo's - always tiny. Did reducing nodes help in getting it right - I love that feature, although it takes time.
I wanted to do an elaborate cutwork design, just to prove I can. The difficult and time consuming part is to get no jump stitches and have the line of satin stitches flowing naturally. Don't you hate to be a perfectionist?!

I guess the satisfaction of creating and learning new things is enough for me. When I do things for the money it seems to spoil the fun a bit.

I started digitizing here, on Cute, seeing so many beautiful work, I wanted to learn FSL so bad! :) Then I set up my own website not too long ago, in January 2009.
I use embird for digitizing, and I love it. I just wish I could have Wilcom Studio, people say it's a wonderful software, and I lost a possibility of getting a job because I don't have experience with it. Anyway, the price is not for me yet :(

Hi Twee, Unless you have the time, and money to devote to learning your program well, I don't think it is worth what most good programs cost. I wish that I had known this before I spent $899 for my PE Design 7. Being caregiver for my DH, I have precious little spare time. (I do love the automatic photostitch feature.) I would also recommend, that if you do buy a digitizing program, find someone who can teach you how to use it. The instruction manuels can be very confusing. I wish you much success. Hugs*** Marjorie

I downloaded the FREE Stitch Era Universal software to use for digitizing. I have done several designs, most of which stitched beautifully. The only trouble I've had is with the logo for my husband's company, because of the tiny lettering. I haven't yet tried FSL, but am getting the urge to try it soon.
I say, go for it. If you begin with free software, the only thing it will cost you is your time (and maybe a few white hairs).
