I have the Baby Lock Evolve Serger and the threading is the easiest thing in the world. The newest model is called the Evolution and it is even more wonderful. They both have jet air threading and switching from overlock stitching to cover stitching is very easy. You just can't go wrong with the Baby Lock jet air threading.

I bought an older Bernina last yr, have never set up the coverstitch on it yet. So I am not very knowledgable of them just know I have no idea how to use the coverstitch on mine LOL I look at the pieces and am lost. I do use my overlock all the time though. I will end up purchasing another machine just for coverstitch since I hate taking machines apart in order for it to do a stitch for me. Probably why I have never used the cover stitch.

I agree with sewhobby. I also have a Babylock Evolve. The threading is easy, the machine sews like a dream, you have both the cover and chain stitch on the same machine AND you have the wave stitch. No other serger has it. I just love it to finish edges with a neat stitch. You can match the thread colors or use thread to add punch to your project. I recommend that you go to dealers and test sew the sergers to decide what is best for you. Babylock is expensive but the machine is amazing.

Hi I owned a Bernina 4 thread for many years and just got a Babylock extrordin aire . It has 8 threads and air tubes thread the looper for you. They give you a chart to set all the settings for all the things it does. Virtually fool proof. I love it. Little costly but worth it. Took a little getting used to after my old Bernina. I have the husqvarna 910 huskylock and have had no problems that weren't operator error (giggle) i love the Husqvarna line, I have the designer one also and it has never let me down. Get the machine that appeals to you the most and whatever dealer is near you for help and service when needed. It's a little tough trying to go it alone......

I have the Viking 936 and love it. It also does the cover stitch. Wish sergers were easier to thread. Other than forgetting how to switch between the cover stitch and regular serging it is great.

I too have the 936 and LOVE it! it is really nice that it has the coverstitch too. BUT i find that i dread changing it over. i tend to thread it 3 thread and leave it that way most times. But when that special project pops up I am able to change it. that said if you can only get one machine, this is the way to go. However if you have the space and money, it makes more sense to get simple serger and then more sophisticated one.
