I would really like to get my large cones out of the sun. I probably have about 20 of them so far. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,
I don't know how big your drawers are - but I have an extra small drawer board and store the cones laying, the smaller ones I have standing. I do also so with my overlockyarn, they are all thick and always 4 from one colour and take a lot of space.
Or you can borrow the hubby of the cutie who made this wonderful board with pins, a tray for wallhanging.

The large cones are about 3inches in diameter so ther is no way they will fit into the thread cabinet drawers made for the small spools. Thanks

Currently I have a blue Craftsman tool chest to store my thread. The larger spools go in the bottom drawers and the smaller on top. The drawers move so smoothly too. Covered the Craftsman name with embroidery designs stitched on felt and glued to cardboard then used carpet tape to attach to the chest.

Hmm, good idea. I never think to check out the tool chests since I am so tool challenged. I don't like the plastic drawers because the bend and are often difficult to open and close. Thanks

I have all my threads on thread racks on two walls. Everything from tiny 250 yd specialty threads to 6000 mtr. Serger thread. Luckily the two walls I use never get any direct sunlight. My DH made all my thread racks and one is all the way to the ceiling. I have to use one of those grabber things to get the thread, but it isn't taking up any of my valuable floor space. My room is not so big.

Thanks. I try to keep my thread out of the light because our home is in Florida. We are presently in North Dakota, but I would still prefer to baby it. I do not have a business so it can last a very long time.

Oh Karen, I do hope you find a great way to store them - I am using some of the plastic drawers - that have the small drawers on top and larger drawers on the bottom - but the drawers are way to large - so I end up stacking the other spools on top - not to my liking - but better than all these spools laying around. I would much rather have smooth opeing drawers in a chest sitting next to my machine than this - but it works for now. Hehehe!

Shirlene, it is amazing to me how much you get done and here I am whining about how to store this thread. Perhaps the heavier plasic chests are sturdier and the drawers won't bend and be hard to open and close. This is why I never bothered to look at them. My 2 small plasic storage units drive me nuts with their sticking and I need 2 hands to use them to be sure the stuff in the drawer isn't blocking the opening/closing or the unit isn't bending from the wight in the drawer. Thanks.

( I was afraid of the sun also ) But I just found a great plastic drawer container with six drawers ( Smaller drawers than usual )It is about 27" high and is on Casters . Just perfect for the thread to stand up in. 1,000 and 5,000 . The cost was 37.99 at Joann's but I had a 50% off coupon so it was about 19.00 . Well worth the price. . Hope this helps. Nancy

How I wish I had a Joanns that was as well stocked. I am limping along in a small city with cery small stores. I have 2 small 3 drawer plastic chests that are already full and I struggle to open and close them. Perhaps the larger systems would be studier. Thanks
Karen , I know how you feel about not having a Joann's in you city we didn't until last year and we are a large city. Now I just love to go and always have a coupon.
