This is mops' lovely rose design embroidered on balsa wood. (The frame is cherry) I took the liberty of adding some colour to the petals and leaves with watercolour. Thanks for the design mops - hope there are going to be more to follow!

It is actually a "hardwood" even though it is soft! It comes in lengths 4 inches wide and 1/16th inch thick from a model making shop. It is used for making model aeroplanes. You can stitch on it like you can on card. Simple running stitch designs like this one are about the limit.

Normal embroidery needle like for card. It will blunt it so don't use a new one!
