computer geeks to the house to 'fix' the problem, then after 2 hours(!!!) *#@#*&% they decide that they have to wipe the thing clean and restart!!!!!!!!! O M G everything I've downloaded, bought, saved, created since January is gone!! I'm just sick, all my alphabets, Diddle (sob), designs I've bought, everything! I'm so bummed out. I guess I can get some of the ones I've bought redownloaded but not so sure. And to top that off, they couldn't even fix it! DH was on the phone with India this a.m. for 3 hours and they couldn't fix it either! Everybody's just going hmmmm for how. At least I got to get it off my chest. If I complain here hubby thinks I'm fussing at him (which I'm not) so silence is the rule. Thanks for listening, guess the world won't come to an end. But from here on out I'll back up my files myself instead of thinking he's done, which he did IN JANUARY!! men!

So sorry for your loss....I know exactly how you're feeling as this happened to me last year and I lost everything on my computer too. Had thought I had everything backed up on external hard drive but when when I plugged it in to dl it was blank, had never checked it before and needless to say got the shock of my life and I was SICK. Lots of money down the drain due to faulty hd, needless to say I check now everytime I up date. Sorry!

I was having lots of problems with my old computer, spent over 2K on a whole new system and still had the same sort of stupid problems, it turned out to be my wireless mouse.

OH, and my favourite keyboard is incompatible with the new computer, I couldn't get an updated driver for it, so every time the special OFFICE keys stop working, I just reboot. There's no way I'm parting with my Office Keyboard!!!!

Problems exist when you install Logitech mouse controller software (Setpoint) and it wants to CONTROL your keyboard even though you may not have a logitech keyboard!!!! Bloody programmers have just gone toooooooo far these days.

I hope you get it sorted.
hugs n love,
Meganne

My hubby works in IT and in the past I've had to deal with nightmares such as this, like...spending 60 hours designing a website only to find out he "accidentally" deleted it because he was swapping harddrives. Lesson learned.

I keep all my embroidery on a jump drive. It just works better for me that way. I don't have to worry about backing it up and I don't have to worry if my harddrive is dying. I keep it in my purse so noone else can write to it and it gives me pease of mind.

Sorry to hear about your woes....I'm surprised they couldn't do a backup of your drive before wiping it out. The system files and your embroidery files are completely different.....my heart goes out to you.

Karen, I would have thought that they would do some sort of a save to something else - before they wiped you out - I would have been screaming at the top of my lungs - had someone done that to my embroidery files - I am so sorry this happened. I use an external hard drive for my files - plus I also back them up on an extra drive that I have installed on my PC and I have DVD's, too.

Yikes! Hope you can get your files back. Can't believe they wiped everything out without telling you! I think they should foot the bill for you to get back your files! I, too, got a new computer to find my "older" HP printer didn't work with my new HP computer! I think they do this so we will spend, spend, spend. Some of us like to save, save, save!! Good luck!

So sorry for your lost designs.Hope you get your collection soon.I am so lucky my two sons are ITs.So I have live in help with computer problems. It saves us a fortune. To keep his laptop running cooler my son takes it apart (at least 100 tiny screws)and dusts it out. They are whizzes with lots of electronics too.
Good advise 'BACK UP OFTEN'. Mine is only the cost of a DVD.Especially for your purchased designs.
External Hard drives can also go on the blink so don't just trust that, to keep your valuable Data.
Best wishes
Bev

So sorry. I think you should tell those "experts" that wiped everything clean that they OWE you BIG TIME. Even I with the minimun knowledge knows you cannot do that. You can have my shoulder to cry on anytime. Hugs
