You know the vintage stuffing used was a crushed up straw, but I use a soft poly fiber. It works well. You can make it a firm surface or soft. Whatever your choice is. As you can see from the picture, this was packed firmly, but not high. I also think it depends on what you want to achieve. From past experience, if I don't pack it tightly it tends to lose it's shape.

that is so cute, I would use the same thing, not sure if other things would dull the pin heads

Thanks everyone. My daughter made this for me for Christmas last year. I made one for my mother a few years back and put my grandmothers hat pins in it instead of sewing pins. :)We love looking for mismatched fine china for projects like this.

Hi I use sand, like beach sand or dry coffee grounds or they sell small plastic pellets (that you stuff dolls with or beanbags). The sand sharpens the needles and The coffee grounds are nice because every time you stick a pin in it or handle it you get the smell of fresh coffee. Hope that helps! Suzanne

SD the coffee does stain the fabric or you use darker shades of fabric? TIA ;D *2U

Here is a free pattern for a yo-yo pin cushion. I thought it was cute. Tipnut.com has loads of free patterns for pincushions.

I use leftover pieces of quilt batting, that has worked well for me. Hugs, Judy
