I found this UFO in my pile of cut out dresses for the granddaughters.. I think I cut this one for the first about 17 years ago.. I will now tell you Yeaaaaaaaaaa.. I finished it and my 5 year old granddaughter will wear it for her birthday next month.. Her mommy is making her cupcakes like the one on her dress.. it is from Embroidery Library.. I think the reason I put off making this is because I hate putting in zippers.. and this one was cut for a zipper.. I usually make a placket and put on buttons or snaps.. easier..

This is lovely - you might have meant it for the older one when she was young - but it really was meant for this one for your 5th birthday. Hehehe! It all works out.

looks just great. Don't you think that the older fabrics were of a much nicer quality.

The dress is adorable and you did such a nice job of sewing it. I like the cupcake on the front of the dress

How Cute (Pun intended). I also hated to put in zippers until years ago someone told me to put the zipper in before making any other seams, unless it is to join the top to the bottom,(ie bodice to skirt.) regardless of what the pattern instructions say. You then have a flat surface to work on. It is much easer to make the rest of the seam match up to the zipper than to make the zipper match the rest of the seam.
After learning this my zippers have alwas looked neat and flat no puckers ect. It is also a lot easier to work with two flat pices of materal.
Hope you to will enjoy zippers now.

That's such a cute little dress. I don't have GD's to sew for and I don't even sew for my GS's which are 6 & 4. But I do embroider on shirts for them.
