about the clear vinyl used for the bug jar designs....What is the best thickness to use? Hancock's has a great sale online on vinyl right now but there are several different thicknesses, 006, 012, and 020. Which one is the thickest-thinnest? Which one will work better with the Bug Jar designs?

Don't know about the wisdom part, but from research, 6 mm (gauge) is the thinnest and 40mm (gauge) is the thickest, I would recommend a 12 or 20 for crafts, 6 would tear too easily and the other is used for boating etc... But this is just my uneducated guess. LOL

I don't think 006 means 6mm, that's a 1/4" and 40 mm is about 1.5 inch, but you are right the higher the number the thicker the stuff is. I too would go for the middle ones, the shower curtain or tablecover quality.
Sorry Martine, I stand corrected. I wrote it completely wrong. I was getting the info from a google search, but that should have read .006" which is very thin like a sheet of paper....012. .40(almost 1/2"). Thanks for looking out for me. :)

Your bit about the wisdom made me curious, and after reading the rest of it I can tell you I don't fall in the category.
When I designed the bug jar in Designs by Cuties by want of the real stuff I cut up one of those show maps you use in binders and used that. That thickness was fine, it did not tear but it's not the material to put in your washing machine. I haven't a clue about the thickness to use, I would go for a medium weight and feel it for strength.

We have 3 thickness here in ontario & i used the thinest one with no problems at all!!Carolyn

I, too would use the medium weight - I haven't done any of the bug jar designs - someone that has - may come along - the only think I did were some credit card holders and bags - the medium weight worked great. And I do remember that anything too thin would just be cut with the thread and needle.
