Welcome Tiffany! I have a Brother also, but don't have the PED software to do all that. It was more than what I could spend on it, but I have found a couple of free d/l that has what you are needing, the d/l is free for a short period, but it will give you a chance to try it. Here are the links for you. I have the Pulse Ambassador. But only as the freebie, all I can do right now is see stitches, and convert fonts. Once I purchase it, I will be able to do lettering. I use "embird" and the additional plug in "fontengine".
So I can write what ever I want in many fonts and all sizes, also I can choose the type of stitching eaysily. I wrote many bibleverses by this way, also other sayings, or even names.
Of course - it's not freeware, but they have a free trial - try to test it and see what is good for you.
