When preparing to hoop a tote bag for embroidery is it necessary to unsew a seam to insert the hoop? I did one several months ago and the only way I could get it hooped was to open up one side, do the design, then resew the seam. Is there an easier way?

I'd like to know also. I guess it depends on how stiff the fabric is.

I hoop sticky back stabilizer then stick the tote to the sticky back and pin it so it stays secure

Honeychyle, I made several Trick or treat bags 2 years ago, and I started ripping out one side and then sewing it back up after embroidery. I was using several Halloween Fonts to emb names on the little ones bags. After a few bags, I realized that if I did the embroidery design upside down, and turned the bag inside out, I didnot need to do any ripping! It worked great. But remember when you turn a design upside down, you also must turn it around sideways. Does that make sense? If not the letters are backwards. Hope this helps you, Hugs, Judy

If it is large enough, hoop the bag, then turn it inside out and clip back the sides to display your stitching area with the large clamp type paper clips or just use safety pins. I still hover when it is sewing just to be careful not to get any of the bag excess stitched into my design.;)
