This is a GREAT question and even though I don't FSL yet I'd be interested in the answer. My thought would be to use pure starch, or some time of decopage or school glue. But don't know if that is an answer you are looking for. I'm tagging this one to find the answer. Thanks ...Terre

Terre, I have tried starch but it never seems to get stiff enough. I bought it at the grocery store. Maybe they have a stronger one at the craft store?

I put pieces of the off cuts of wss into a spray bottle and add warm water to it. I then just spray the fsl ietm, reshape and dry. Hugs Yvonne

don't it smell bad after a while? mine did. so now i just wrap a few of the little left over pieces and spray water it.
Yvonne does it stay crisp? Like not very bendable? Just wondering if you ever need to reapply it in the future if you don't wash it. Thanks! - Tania

bluedaisy, I just do as the others has suggested - except - I just hold a piece of WSS - a bit smaller than the object and wet it down some - you can feel - when it is desolving - you rub the two of them together - until you feel - the WSS sinking into the FSL - then rinse off - whatever you feel you don't need - be careful - it can get slippery and also slimmy - but all it all - when you need something stiffened - it will do the job - use your extra pieces that you have cut away for this job.

I think the ladies of yesteryear used to soak their lacy crotchet-work (such as Xmas and Wedding Bell) in a strong solution of sugar and water. Have not done this myself, but the results were a very stiff object.

But that could draw bugs. You can buy a stiffener at any craft store.
I remember my grandmother telling me that she stiffened crochet items with strong sugar water. I'd forgotten that! Thanks.
In the fifties we used to stiffen our net petticoats with sugar water. Did the wasps love it!!

Have you tried to modge podge a fsl object. I do this quite often on small lace have never tried a larger one. It gives it almost a plastic appearance . I love the stuff. Try it out!

The ants just love sugar and water and have been known to eat holes in the fabric or lace.Light cornflour starch is good
