How are you organizing your alphas?

atta girl - I know I've gotten my 'ducks in a row' and just love the ease of finding what I want. I have a folder that says 'alphabets' then individual folders inside that one with each alphabet under it's name, works great for me, but then I don't have a record of where they came from. I was going to cut back too as I have so many now in a very short time, but notice I am back again. I am getting some sewing and embroidery done. But, back up is the key to this. It seems as if our jef files in a flash drive have a problem of not being stable and have lost them twice but thanks to my back up CDs I am back in business again. (It may be the sudden southern storms we have here, that cause the electricity to flicker and the lights to blink even machines even with sun shining...or the sudden loss of electricity the other day for over an hour when there was a wreck near by.) Not my fault or flash drives nor the Jef files!

I had realised that I use only a few of all my alphas becuase most of them are too big or the design is too special. So I made a folder with my favorite fonts (that's only 5 :o) and put it on the desktop to make it easier for me to work with them in embird; saves me a lot of time that I haven't got to wait until embird shows all the alphas ;-)
My alphas have no special system. My favorite design-sellers have a colored tab (yellow=sick blue CA+CE purple/orange= german sellers green=emblibrary
red= my twilightfonts :o) and the uncomplete alphas have a little star before the name> *Schoolfriends CA.

Karen you are not alone in this struggle. hehehehe.... I'm still working on my organizing. I just don't think it will ever get done. Just think, it gives you something to do when you don't have anything else to do. LOL, if only that were the truth.:)Terre

I know exactly what you mean, and then i find another 'must have' and a 'but its free'!! I wonder if this addiction is cureable?

I can't help but grab most of the free ones I can but I only have 3 alphabets. I have to cut back on the ones for kids cause my boys are grown men and it doesn't look good on the grandchild front either. Youngest's wife to be says no kids no way and the older one is divorced but dating a nice lady for now, 30s and no kids.

I always say to myself, NO more until I embroider what I have. Ha, then another cute or beautiful one comes along, and you all know the rest.

Well i am glad I am not the only one here. I keep downloading free designs and buying more. Spending too much time on that. Need to get stitching and working.

Now you knew all along you couldn't resist. I am so glad to know that there a fellow addicts. While watching TV at night I am also sorting designs. Is this ever going to end? *s 4 all adicts

I've got more designs than I'll ever use...but I can't quit...gotta have more. I am getting better at backing up my downloads. I make a point to do it at least once a week.

Gee....I thought I was the only one seriously addicted until I found a free design that said S.A.D.D. which was Seriously Addidicted to Downloading Designs....lol....my husband always asks me "what are you going to do with all those" and I tell him I'm saving them for retirement....lol

I am not sure if addict is the right word for me I need to go to a "EDDA" meeting (or Embroidery design downloader aholic"}I say I am going to stop all the time but of course I don't. There is no way I will ever use all that I have downloaded but I keep coming back for more!! Like when we were kids running to see what was under the tree on Christmas morn or as a younger woman hitting the flea markets and garage sales for that just right piece of used junk HA!!
As for organizing I have a folder on my desk top that is called "Freebie sites" and inside of it is a folder for each site I go to or have gone to, about 213 of them and growing! each one of those folders is subfoldered into ones like "animals, children, fonts, floral and so on and then they are transfered to another folder on my desk top called "MY Designs" which is subfoldered with the same animals ,floral etc. so I actually have 2 copies of each design on my computer and can always tell where I got the design I also back up only once a month but I have to do it on DVDs now that I have so many HA!!!

hey that is ok. What other addictions are there that aren't harmful and inspire creativity.

I said - a while ago - that I was not going to collect any more alpha. Then both Cute and Amazing offered such lovely alphas that resolve vanished like snow in the desert!
