This was my daughter's birthday banner last year. I guess I'm going to be a little lazy this year and simply embroider the number 4 for this year and reuse this. I made little gift bags with the horse designs and put each child's name on the bag. I embroidered about 20 horses total and purposely made each horse a different color combination. That's what made it so fun to do.

It's lovely, would be a shame if it could be used only once, so the idea to replace the 3 is great. Are you doing a loose patch? That way it can be used next year as well without too much trouble.

I will just make a patch for the 4 this year. I made Tweety for the 1st, puppy dogs for the 2nd, ponies for the 3rd, and I was supposed to do something with tree houses for this year until I bought the design and it had 27 color changes! (I'm having the party in a tree house this year.) Although I'm only inviting 8 children this year, I'm picking a different project for the favors and reusing the banner since most children are new preschool friends and didn't attend the last party and there will be pony rides again!

Very nice work. I am thinking about what to do for my son's birthday banner. Maybe an applique shape with velcro and the number for each year.

How adorable. That is just a great idea and I'll HAVE to keep that in mind for my grandkids.
