call the paramedic's to assist us to get him up - we tried for about ten minutes - he was getting so exhausted by then - I just prayed for a minute and decided to call 911 - the same guys that helped him - when he had his stroke and transferred him to the U of U rehab were the ones that came - they were so nice and got him up in just a second - I was so relieved to see him sitting on a chair and not laying on the floor. It sure scared me and made me realize - even though he has come so far - he has so far to go - but we are so grateful for the little blessings that we receive each day - what a miracle to have him still here - I just had to vent a bit and get it out - so I could sleep later one. He is resting well and we have therapy in the morning - I hope he didn't really injure himself - when you fall - you sometimes don't notice the little things that make it hard to walk or move around the next day. So we should be able to get on with life - as life is - THANKS!

Shirlene, sorry to hear about Rick falling. Recovery from a stroke can take a very long time. There are so many things in life we take for granted until we cannot do them. It is also very tough on the one who becomes the carer. Hope his therapy goes well in the morning. Maybe they will be able to show you what to do should he fall again. Take care and thinking about both of you

Caroline, thank you - Rick didn't feel up to therapy - so he rested and his side and back are bruised up and he is very sore, but all in all - I think he is ok - we will be discussing a way for us to get him up - in the future, too.

Shirlene, I am so sorry. It is so frightening to have someone on the floor and not be able to help him. You did the right thing in calling 911. Is he using a cane or walker? I am sure that the therapist will want to know this and will hopefully have suggestions.

Karen, thank you - I was frightened - mostly because I thought he had another stroke and it took me right back to 02032010 - however - when he said he was ok and just needed help up - I felt better - we worked for a time - trying to get him up and out of the bathroom - we got him into the kitchen - but just couldn't get him up - so calling 911 was the only thing to do - to get him up - the therapist will want to work with him on getting up - I am sure of that - he was wedged between the sink and the toilet - which isn't an easy place to get in to help or for him to move around to get up, either. I am thankful that he is just bruised and sore.

Oh Shirlene! What a scare! I know how Rick felt, I've been there before right after my knee replacement. But thankfully you did the right thing to dial 911. And the Lord provided you with friends to assist you. Wasn't that just like our Lord to do that. :)If you noticed He prepared you for this day in your daily devotional on the 8th. !0} He is so good to us in all times. Make sure Rick can get into a HOT shower as soon as possible to take away the soreness that he will have after that fall. This will help him also with when he goes to therapy this morning. Terre, thank you and YES I know God was preparing me for this - Rick is very sore and he didn't go to therapy today - he is resting and the hot shower did help - just getting him in it again - is the hard part - as he is afraid to get close to the bathroom at this time - as if it was the bathroom that did this to him - Hehehe! Normal, I am not sure anything around here resembles normal, yet.

GLAD HE DIDN'T HURT HIMSELF TO BAD...is there anyone that you know who is big and strong (friend or relative) that could come over on the times he takes a bath just in case there is a next time? then maybe you can get those non slip rugs/mats for the other times he is in there.

Deanna, he does pretty good getting in and out of the shower - however - he was just going to the bathroom this time - no cause to have anyone around for any reason - when doing that - but he just slipped when standing up - he couldn't catch himself - because he was heading on the right side - which he has no control over - he was wedged between the basin and the toilet - not much room between the two - I am shocked he had room to fall there. We had no rugs or mats on the floor, either.

Oh, Shirlene, I know that both of you were probably so frightened. My sister has had to go through this so often, and her husband doesn't get up, but will slide off the lift or something. Bless your heart. You have your hands full. Our thoughts are with you.

I hope he is feeling somewhat better today. Falling is always such a scary feeling. I imagine he is still stiff and sore from it. Someone said a hot shower. Maybe a heating pad would help somewhat. Hope he improves soon. Hugs, Mary

Thank you Mary - yes, he is using a heating pad - he is still resting and sore and stiff - he did the hot shower thing twice yesterday - which I was comfortable with - him getting in and out of the show - but he was fine - it takes a couple days to get past the stiffness - thanks.

Judy, thank you - it seems so small now - but at the time - it did feel very close to what happened 7 months ago - I watched him close through the night and yesterday - so I don't think it was a mini stroke, just that he didn't get his footing and fell towards his bad side. He is still in bed this AM - resting comfortable, but his sides hurt him alot. Thanks dear - we will not get discouraged.

I'm so sorry to hear of Ricks fall (we just got back from Alabama).....how blessed he was not to have hurt himself....one of Larrys falls resulted in a broken knee cap, he healed nicely.....I will contiue to keep Rick and you in my prayers.....you just never know what each day will bring........blessings Janet

Rick is still complaining of a sore side - now I am worried that he has cracked a rib or something - he decided not to join me at Rikki's 18th birthday celebration today - so he will be home alone - only his second time - so we will see how he does. I will only be five minutes away.

Shirlene, I do hope Rick is o.k. If it goes on too long I reckon he should get it checked out. You may be right he may have cracked a rib and they just have to heal on their own. I am so aorry about Rick's accident. I do hope that nothing is broken and it is just some sore muscles or just bruises. He has come so far and has proven that he can handle the situation pretty well.
