I had the same problem with my cats when I had goldfish in a pond. Didn't matter what I did my ginger cat would still catch my fish. In the end I gave up and filled the pond with lotus pond lilies, they were just gorgeous.
Sorry the heron got all your fish, there'll be no stopping him now he knows where they were, though you could try a glass cover, just remember to make sure there is a good space between the water and the glass and that the pond is well aerated.
Hugs n roses, Meg

Don't you hate them when they do that. As if there were not enough canals and ditches around.

a friend of mine had the same problem with racoons. She bought a watering sprinkler system that has a motion sensor to turn on when an animal got in range of her pond. Problem was her cat kept getting in the way , but he will learn.

I am sorry you lost your fish, but I cannot stop laughing, U should live here in South Africa, we are infested with monkeys, they even pull up all the growing carrotts, and as for fruit we have given up , they even eat the lemons.

What??????
an't believe!
We do not have monkeys and also no lemon - but I would like to see the face of the monkeys while eating lemons!!!!!!
How different you life is to Germany!
Great too share it.

I have seen on TV how the monkeys are, they are destructive thieves! We had a spider monkey that my aunt bought for my Dad for Christmas one year, my Dad built a really nice cage for it and all but that monkey hated my Dad so off to the zoo he went!

I'm sorry, Gerry, but had to giggle. ESPECIALLY since he came back to be sure he got them all! Our friend had one eat all his big, beautiful koi (is that how you spell it?) and he hasn't replaced them! Said they cost too much to feed the herons!!

The same thing happened to us. The dang things are protected so one can not get rid of them. I don't like the heron or blue jays. H&*

Ohhh, I'm sorry for you. I think whatever you have and like for pets or animals - it's a loss to loose them by killing!

Isn't it better to add some ceramic fishes?

It's really ironic that the heron came back!!!!!!!! How naughty he is!
