What did he retire from? Was he raised on a farm? Maybe something that would apply to one of those things.

How about a hobby? (fishing, bowling, cards) maybe something along those lines.

I would say to do something funny! At his age, I can assure you that he is not looking for a keepsake. If he is not sick or in bad health, do something that would give him a good "belly laugh"! There are alot of fairly new designs that have older people doing and saying amusing things for the older set. Of course, you know his personality so you would do a better job picking out a design no matter if it was a keepsake or an amusing.
We just buried my DIL's Mom yesterday and she was 81. She had a wonderful caring personality when she was totlaay with us and had seen very sick off and on for the last 4 years. She had even been pronounced dead 3 times and the Dr's had brought her back. That she WAS tired of. She was ready physically and more important , mentally to go to be with the Lord. It has been a very rough several months for the family but even though they were hurting and upset the last few days, all agreed that Ms Sybil was so much better off than the suffering she had gone through. The sickness, the many emergency trips to the hospital by ambulance, the horrific pain, she was tired and settled everything she needed to do before she left us but she too was very ready and prepared to go to her spiritual home. Most older people have a great sense of humor if they are well. If I were in your place, it would be humor and maybe a framed well known bible saying or prayer. Sounds like this person is special to you and if that is the case, anything you do will be special to him. I will try and find a site that has some very humorous older men and ladies just breing theirselves. The name of the site does not come to mind right now.

He is still playing golf so I will probably go along with that. I would also like to incorporate a 90 somewhere. Thank you Cuties for your help.

As he is still playing golf, maybe you can find out his "average" score and put something to the effect of shooting his age(plus or minus).

Anything you make him he'd probably be happy with, but what about a favorite dog breed?His favorite sport, though I did like the suggestion The Legend Continues. Believe me just the fact you thought enough to make him anything, he'll just love it.

I would embroidery his name (good to know his favorite color) on a lap size blanket. The residents where my Mom lived (assistant living was available if they needed some help) have thinner skin as they age and the blanket would be a good idea and something very useful.
