Having bought my first metallic thread yesterday I am wanting to try it out. Is it possible to embroider FSL with metallic? Thank you.

I have but now for a complete design, unless you are capable of slowing down your machine you may run into trouble with the thread breaking a lot. Shirlene is the one to really answer this so ttt

I made a bunch of FSL angels with metalic last year for a gift exchange and they were great. Slow down your machine and put the thread on a spindle separate from your machine so the thread doesn't twist as it is coming off the spool. You can place it in a deep cup if you don't have a separate thread holder. I also put some sewers aid on the thread to make it slick.

I also like the sewers aid. I use it on the needle ALSO place a drop on small piece of material like felt- cotton batting and put under needle at push it up and down the needle if thread break all time use metalic needle or jean needle so the eye is bigger I use regular thread on the bobbin same color just not metalic

I've used it before on fsl. Make sure the thread is at least 18 " away from your machine so it can relax before you sew with it. It tends to twist and if your machine can't be slowed down, try loosening the top tension just a little. You still may have a lot of breaks just be patient. Metallic thread looks better as an embellishment rather than the whole fsl design.( my opinion anyway). It takes a bit of getting used to but the more you use it, the more comfortable you'll get with it. Good Luck!

Sarah, I love embroidering FSL with metallic thread - I have been doing it for years and years - the thread that I purchased has no trouble - I use a net around it and place it on my thread stand - I use the metallic thread in the top and bobbin both. I don't slow my machine down on any of my FSL - I sometimes use a larger needle - enjoy working with your metallic thread - the larger the spool - the better it works, too.

I have used metallic for fsl also, I do use soft light metallic which is very good, but Shirleen and others have already mentioned, use a thread stand and make sure the thread is able to relax before going through the machine.

I used metallic on FSL 2 days ago. I was afraid it would break often so I went with something easy. However after saying that and looking at the picture, I say if you are going to use metallic thread, make sure you will be able to see it and not do like I did where you barely know that it's there. :) LOL...
