Usually, unless you get an offer from a cutie via PM. I had Ricky's Fun Things digitize my son and his wife to be's names and wedding date for me and it was only about $5.

How does one go about asking for someone to digitize for them...I thought on this site we could not share designs....that would be wonderful...we get something done that we need AND whoever can make alittle money??? I will wait to see the answer to this..Thank you in advance....
You usually correspond through PM (Privat TAB) Ask first in General and the people that can digitize will respond if they have time. Apparently it is time consuming to to digitize a design and depends on how difficult it would be. You would not be sharing design, since all correpondence will be between you and the person taking on the task. All this is of course only possible if the design is not copyright. Good Luck.

This is a wonderful thing to now know...I have noting at the moment BUT if I do I surely will ask....Public first and then see if anyone responds in a PM...is there NOTHING a cutie can not acomplish??? This is the most amazing site...Thank you all..

I am happy to help cuties with digitizing, if it is a simple job I will do it for free, if it is going to take a bit of time I will have to charge (discounted of course). I have helped one other cutie before.

If you go to a professional digitiser the answer is yes, you have to.
If you ask here some of the digitising Cuties would gladly help for free. I have done several, was paid once when someone insisted on it. If it is something that more people could possibly use I post it in Designs by Cuties, if it's more personal I send it by email.
