That's using your head - and we need to try several things to know what works sometimes. I have used netting, tulle, gauze and organza when it doesn't work the way I want. One thing with organza, or so I am told - you really don't have to use stablizer, but I have not tried it like that.

Reminds me of Christmas many, many years ago when suddenly I had lots of little bodies around, plus visiting friends, no money to spare to buy Christmas Stockings and a desire to treat everyone alike. I took a sheer white nylon curtain, cut it into fairly large rectangles and made Christmas Bags with red wool crocheted drawstrings... on Christmas Eve.
The pressies inside looked grand, sparkling through the sheer nylon, and those Christmas Bags are still used every year.
Your idea to use your curtain is certainly a good one. Your FSL ornaments will survive forever and they look very lovely. Well done, and thanks for the memories.

Carolyn, these turned out lovely. Now the next thing would be to figure out - if you could cut away the material - as you do in applique work - before your final satin stitch - you are doing a great job - I really like the outcome. Great work lady!

Carolyn you are so clever I just tossed out some old sheer curtains .did not think I would have a use for them. these are beautiful you will have a lovely Christmas tree.

great stitch out and a wonderful idea!

I use to buy nice curtains for this work and also for coasters because they are much more cheap i buy organza for 6 to 8 Euro and curtains in the € store for only 2,- and double the wide.

Regarding to not use stabilizer - I use stabilizer, otherwise there could be a small gap between the fabric and the embroidery - according to the kind of embroidery.

Nice solution to your problem, they look great. I've used remnants of bridal netting, tulle, organza and remnats of purple sheer curtains - whatever was at hand - it is usually works well, although the purple was a bit too overpowering.
