Sorry, but black is horrid for a bedspread, it shows every little bit of fluff and will be a nightmare to keep looking nice.
And on this I speak from personal experience after having to give our very expensive black doona cover away to my son because it drove me insane trying to keep it free of lint. Unless of course it was black satin, lint doesn't usually adhere to satin.

(A doona cover is like a big pillow slip that you put a doona (eiderdown, feather or padded quilt) inside and it sits on top of your bed.) Don't know what you call these in the States or other parts of the world.

Just my opinion and I know many people will think I'm being harsh, but it would be terrible if she couldn't use it after all the effort put into its making.

Black or red, Yoriko will love it which ever colour it is. She will know that we all contributed and that you, Deanna made it with love for her. It will be gorgeous. Hugs Lynn
