suggestions to make this job easier would be greatly appreciated! Can't use the electric defuzzer/razor because of the fleece. I am using a magnifying glass and a seam ripper.

I have tried this and I never could do it. I would end up with a whole sooner or later. I have appliqued over a mess up.

I thought of that but he's 22 now and he is substitute teaching. I can't think of anything appropriate to put over it. I have removed 1 of 5 letters so far and no holes.....yet :)
what about a patch that says "sub"

Hi sewmom... i know the feeling. I have done this job too. I used my little pink razor. I just kepted going over and over it on the back side and then i used the seam ripper on the front to pick up the loose stitches. Hope this helps. I know it takes for everrrrrrrrrrrrr

shaving razor,,, the little pink ones that you get in a pack of 5 or so

Are you taking the stitches out from the back? I used to use a normal razor on the back of the designs and take out the bobbin thread. I have a stitch eraser now which is much easier. I assume that is what you mean by defuzzer/razor. I don't know if this post will be of any help.<br />Alice

Thanks Alice. We all make a mistake sometime! I remember when I was in design school and I used an industrial machine for the first time, it was so fast and I was so scared. I didn't make a mistake then but I thought I would. I have serged a piece of something into the wrong thing before. Problem with that is you cut as you serge :(

That really is the problem with a serger, you can undo the stitches but you can't put the fabric back. I hope you have some success with your jacket. I think the suggestions about embroidery or applique over the top have a lot of merrit, so if you end up with a hole you could just cover it up. hehehe.

martha stewart says to get a toothbrush and vinegar and it is supposed to take threads out. Dip toothbrush in the vinegar and rub the thread. Haven't tried it but if it will help, won't hurt to try. :) have fun... hehehe...

I would applique over top and bottom with a shape.
then put something on that for him :-)
