So what do you do Carolyn-put a spool pin in that hole to put a spool or cone on?? I don't have a Husq.-mine is a Janome-I don't even use the spool holder inside half the time-I sometimes use the one on top but more often than not I use a 10 spool thread stand that I have-I have it set off to the left of the machine.~linda~

Sometimes it sounds scarier than the real thing-glad U solved the problem and showed us U sometimes need to be daring-gets results,hehehe.

I always leave my top up - even with the large spools - something that I have always done. But, as my husband says - whatever rocks your boat. LOL

I have a brother machine and I have a binder clip on mine (on the top cover - that I leave open) and I run the thread through the "finger" holder parts and to the first stop of the threading mechanisim. A binder clip is used to hold a bunch of papers together - you get them at the office supply store.

I have a D1 and no problems at all, I also leave the lid open and it has the little hook by the needle to pull the thread through what is a huge help.

Well - what do I think - I love your son's sense of humor!!! Hehehe! As for what you have done - that is what you have decided to do - to help you thread your machine from the back side - if it works - it works. (My stand would be on the side of the machine, so as not to interfer with the lid.)

Here is a sloution that I use when using large cones of thread behing my Designer 1 machine on a thread stand.
When the lid is up on the D1 there is a small hole in the lid. This is where you could place part of a paper clip.

Then take the thread from the cone through the paper clip and then I put the built in thread holder on the machine upright and place a large spool cap on the thread holder then put another spool cap on top of the first one with then
I take the thread from the hole(paper clip hole) and place it between the 2 spool caps on the thread holder and then proceed to thread my machine.

I always have my lid open when using the thread stand behind my machine or whenever I am stitching.
That way you can see if there is any problems with the thread before it goes through the machine.

Your Designer 2 machine is not that different from the Designer 1 machine.
Most of the Husqvqarna machine are very similar especially any of the Designer series of machines.

There are lots of Tips about threading and cleaning and using different features of these machines on Jan Henning`s Website.
Have a look you may find this helps you alot with your machine.
Also Jan made videos about using the different HV machines and they are wonderful.
They are still being sold on her website.
Jan passed away this last year but her daughter and husband continue to keep her website open as it has so much information on it about all the Husqvarna Viking Machines.

These direction can be used for any make of machine but is shown on a Husqvarna-Viking machine.

Cleaning your machine on a regular bases will help your machine and you will have less problems with thread and other problems etc.

Your Designer 2 is very similar to the Designer 1 machine as far as how it works. So read all the tips on Jan`s website regarding the Designer 1.
They will help you.

I have D2 and have never had a problem--I always leave the lid open anyway so I can watch thread. The D2 is same as D1 as far as threading goes.
