A rar file is the same as a zip file, it first needs to be unzipped before you can use it. The purpose of this is to make files to download on the internet smaller. Try using a program like "extract now" it can unzip both zip and rar files. Hope this helps.

RAR is the native format of WinRAR archiver. Like other archives, RAR files are data containers, they store one or several files in the compressed form. After you downloaded RAR file from Internet, you need to unpack its contents in order to use it.

It's another way of zipping files, like you can do with WINZIP.
For RAR files you need to have WINRAR. free to download too.
