since they are supposed to stay out of sun, I bought a big tool chest and keep them in there with similar colors together

Most of mine are hung on thread spool racks on the side of the wall by my embroidery machine. It is beside a window, but they don't get sun as the curtain is made of a material that lets me see out, but not let sun in....and the others are in plastic see-through thread boxes. I also have thread stored in a thread display box that has drawers for the thread to lay on its side (bought it when a quilt store was going out of business + some thread), and it is full too....but using it all at a fast pace..

I have mine in those plastic drawer systems that you can get at any local store. I have shared my pictures before - so I don't want to bore everyone with them again.

My husband is making for me a hanging thread rack out of pegboard. He is hot gluing the pegs in cut to 3 1/2 inches long and the pegs are !/4 in diameter. He is adding a row of smaller pegs on the outside row for my bobbins. Can't wait.

I store mine in plastic drawers by like colors. Keeps them out of the dust (it is very dusty in Arizona, USA).

I also have the see through plastic drawers, blues/greens - reds/oranges/yellows - browns/grays/B&W - metallics/variegated. Pinks/Purples are on a thread rack because I use those the most for the girls.
If I have cleaned and organized the sewing room then they are in there, if I am working on projects they are all over the place! hahaha

I have my thread in plastic drawer systems... I have labeled them by color. I saw them in Joann's Fabric but found them way cheaper in our Meijer's grocery store. I have to travel at times - so, I just put a piece of wide mailing tape over the drawers and take it with me!!*

I bought a wood thread holder at JoAnn's that was 1/2 price and holds 60 spools. It is not full yet and I really need some darker colors. I bought a box of pastels on ebay from ThreaDelight and buy a spool or 2 in colors I need at the time. Going through my orange quick with Thanksgiving and Halloween pumpkins on dish towels for my friends and Mom.

omgosh- I have it all over the place-surrounds me-I have the plastic drawing systems on wheels like Shirlene was talking about & 2 lg. thread trees for lg cones, 2 lg wooden peg racks(60 spools p/rack)plus smaller drawer systems for regular size spools and wooly.I almost forgot-I have a couple clear top-30 peg boxes for metallic and rayon spools. I LOVE thread-and no matter how much I have,there is always that one customer that brings me something to mend that isn't in my color collection. ~linda~

Like many of us i keep them in plastic drawers, They are organize by colors, since i read you are suppose to keep tnem out of sunlight I keep the drawers in my closet.

I was very fortunate to purchase a 6 drawer chest which is already organized. It is easy to match the numbered threads to the numbered slots. The overflow spools (mostly large spools)are kept in a dark 4 drawer organizer unit.

I designed this cabinet, and my husband built it. On the back, I have 3 racks that each hold 120 spools. There is a 4th rack in front that slides side to side so I can get to all the threads on back racks. I have them all in order by color number as I only use one brand of embroidery thread. I like the glass doors and they keep all the dust bunnies out.

I also have two more racks near the sewing machines that hold my sewing machine threads. (My embroidery machine is a seperate 15 needle machine).

Like many other Cuties I keep my threads in plastic boxes which are sorted by colour.

my husband designed a cabinet in which on the back I put a pegged thread holder that holds about 80 spools and he made specialized thread holders for the embroidery spools on the inside of each door that hold30 spools on each side. I have smaller spool holders that hang under and to the side of it for small spools of thread. And they are all full and I continue to buy more colors.

Now thats a great idea...I have thread everywhere and cannot get a grip on it yet...Can't even find half of it.....That is my project for the weekend...Cleab my sewing room up.....

This is mine - but I'm envious of those already posted! I have filled up some spaces since the picture was taken.

I also use plasic bins with drawers divided by color range. I use to have the wall racks but hear that you shouldn't leave them out in the light and I wanted to keep the dust off of them. I liked the wall units since you could see the colors at a glance. However,I would have my wall covered with racks so the alternative was the clear plactic bins/drawers.

My hubby built me a thread rack to hold 144 spool of emb. thread, which I filled right away but I have two smaller ones also my big one is on the back of a door (placed by colors)....my sewing thread is in clear plastic thread boxes from Joanns'...I would love to have one big enough to hold all my thread but am happy with what I have....we have a small house so I'm limited in space and in 1930 when the house was built they were not big on closets.....Janet

I bought 2 cabinets fom Metro. You gals who's husbands build their cabinets you guys are so lucky.
