You are lucky you even got him to go to Joanns. My husband waits in the car for me. He doesn't like going in. Probably because there is nothing for men. Only time he goes in with me, is if he wants me to make something for him.

I understand all too well how you are feeling. It was so nice of hime to do this and he got the best pair for you (in his eyes) so we can't make him feel bad. Now how about asking him to do the cutting with those beautiful shears to save your hands.

Well, if you gave him the $15 I hope you let him pay the balance. Some men just never get sewing things right, do they, and then they tell you it's a female thing anyway, so you reply the best tailors are male and then they have an answer to that as well. Hopeless!!

Great story! Sorry for enjoying at your expense because you still have the giant sized pinking shears! I always print out the picture with the model/sku number and highlight it! It isn't a guarantee, but it helps! Thanks for sharing! *s

Men always want the "bigger , better" tool and their brains move in that direction. They always think they are doing you a favor . Sorry honey . Make a big dinner and smoooze him into thinking its HIS idea to return them. Its your only hope .HEE!

I enjoyed reading your story and yes at one time I would get so frustrated with my DH also for what seemed like NEVER getting it right to making a complete turn around. He now goes into quilt shops, Joann's and other places with me an helps pick out fabric, thread and he is especially great at getting great Christmas gifts that are just what I need or would like. He use to want to buy me clothes and that never pleased me. Last year for Xmas he got on the internet and found a great emb. thread and bought me 175 spools....I almost fell over, and my machine loves it....he was the one that bought my 16.5" sq. up ruler and the best was about 20 years ago, my Rowena Iron...and it still works like new.....
Sorry that your pinkers are huge, but at least it is a start for him and if you explain how the size he needs is NOT what you need....maybe one day he will surprise you in the RIGHT direction...but at least he did try. You might re-gift those or find a friend that will swap with you. We have had that take place in our quilting guild several times.

Thanks for the giggle! I don't ask mine to go to the crafty stores for me - hard enough for him to get the right stuff from the drug/grocery store! I am sure the scissors are beautiful - and I agree with 02kar - have him help you with the cutting (man size scissors = man size hands to do the work)!

my husbands pretty good at picking thing up for me uses the phone and pic to double check could be I sent him back a time or two to get it right I just show him my small hand and say too heavy you want do the cutting or go get me some-tool I can handle we do a lot of craft and he learn a long time ago that small hand need small tools but they can do thing that big hand can't in small places try sending him back might work for you

Well BM if there ewas a next time, send a picture. When or if I send my DH on a mission, a picture and hand written notice must accompany him because I know the damage he can do...LOL Even if it's a food order, I must write it down...LOL I have a pair of scissors that are heavy and I use them on heavy fabrics ;D *2U

First, let me say that you are lucky to get him to even go by there and pick anything up for you, secondly, no man alive will ever bring back exactly what you have sent them to get unless you have raised them to do so(SON,) thirdly, if it had been my X husband, which I doubt would have ever picked up anything for me or any other wife, he would have chosen the cheapest pair of scissors and kept the change. My experience with men(very little)led me to believe that they were all idiots in a store if it did not carry tools, weapons, sports equipment, or wheels with motors!!!!!!I was married for 16 yrs and he never went in a grocery store the whole time we were married except when I worked for Winn Dixie 100 yrs ago and then it had to be pay day and he would be after my check to deposit before the bank closed but don't even let that fool you! He only wanted to deposit it so he would have access to it! We have been divorced for 31 yrs and I only once even let it cross my mind to get married again but it did not take me but a few days to rethink it and say NO! <br /><br />I tried to train our only son to do things that most men should have to do and I think I did a great job of it and along comes another woman(wife)heehee and untrains him in just a couple of weeks! I had a good rein but it just did not last! He could go and buy groceries without a list and get the right brands, go pick up things for me and the craft store and I never worried about him getting the wrong thing. Now with the other women in his life(2 grown step-daughters also) he goes in a grocery store and brings back odd brand names of everything. About all I can send him after now are prescriptions because they are set in stone! If you want something right and you are a woman, you must go and get it yourself OR make-do with whatever HE decides to get. That is just the nature of the beast! You are lucky though... he loves you enough to think that if they are bigger, they are better and he was not too stingy to go that extra and get the more expensive. Isn't love great? You can't live without them and can't live with them... I had a really bad one(but not abusive) and so was my Dad to my Mom(he was abusive) so I made up my mind yrs ago that having a good friend was much better than having one in the house.

Karen, you are very lucky to have a nice guy for a pertner for life. Overlook the small things and when you get a chance, just go and get the ones you wanted and BE HAPPY that even though he is just being a man, he is a good guy! Yes, I did get a laugh and I am still smiling. Just remember that their brains are not wired the same way as a woman's. Most likely he thought he was doing you a favor by getting the more expensive ones. And yes, I am still snickering. We love you Karen and most of us are glad to know that even though he is one of the good guys, he is not perfect. Who the heck wants a perfect man around the house? I have both the Fiskars (which I hate for the same reason as you) and Ginghers, which I love. They are smaller and cut perfectly. They are pricey, but with a coupon or when they go on sale they are down to a reasonable fortune. Perhaps you could just tell him, what you told us....these are too big for your hands.

I had a laugh over this one. Mine would have bought the scissors plus a dozen other things that I had not asked for or needed. Like yours he would have bought what he thought was a better bigger pair. Hugs, Mary

The last time DH and I went shopping for a pair of snip scissors I ended up with an Elna Xquisite 2 embroidery machine, which led to ........ well you know the rest. LOL!
Then there was the ime I wanted a larger automatic washing machine........ I ended up with an enormous, $6,000 (front load) washer/dryer stack that I absolutely loathe, and two months later Kleenmaid went into receivership!!! After we'd paid the extra for an extended 5 year warranty.....

NO, I don't ask DH to come shopping with me any more, he's a techno junkie, can't help himself, salesmen love him!!! So do I. :-)

I know how you must feel, but think you are lucky that your dh went to get them,even if they are not the ones you wanted, i would not even ask my DH to do such an errand I know he is not going to do it, and he will go with the every day speech "don't you enough scissors, or fabric or emb. designs?

Ladies, please! Don't you know that you have to print out the picture, circle the item name, number and price? If there is a store ad it is a plus! I always send dh with pictures, otherwise I get the wrong thing or he forgets something, yesterday he was going out and stopping at Walmart for something, I added I would like a new All Easy Sudoku book, he got everything but my book. Sometime when we are pulling out of the driveway he will stop and ask, "Where were we going again?". He swears he is getting Alzheimer's disease. Now, my grandmother had it for years so I know it is not his problem. Men just do not listen to everything we say!
On a side note, today is his 64th birthday. I gave him a card and told him to buy himself something pretty!

hehehe.... So many responses... I'm blessed I guess. Even though my husband likes his "tools", he still will run errands for me. Sometimes he gets it right other times he doesn't. I just go with the flow, because I'm the same way when he wants an errand run for himself. However the older we get the more we have learn to run our own errands and get it the way we want it. LOL... Personally I would say " Honey I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness, but is it possible to return these for scissors that might fit my small hand?"I think he will understand. I do not think he would feel insulted, simply tell him you took them back because they didn't cut properly. We do not have to tell everything, sometimes it is better to be quiet. But it certainly was the thought that counted and he did that favor for you.

LOL...I resemble your situation all the time. I finally decided to stop being quiet about the mistakes and in turn send him right on back to the store with his purchased item to exchange (usually the grocery store). When I need something from the sewing store and having worked there for about a year I just call ahead and tell them what I need and that he'll be by to pick it up, sure saves a lot of mix ups. Did get a good laugh out of this post, like I said been there, done that, now I just need the T-shirt. Happy pinking to ya or better yet have him do it for you.

This was worth more than a giggle, I was rolling on the floor laughing cause this sounds so familiar. I'm sure we can all identify with you and certainly we all sympathize.

Ha, ha. Made my day. I can always count on a Cutie to cheer me up. In the defense of men. My husband send me to Sears one time to get some gadget for his tools. Guess what I brought the wrong thing. Of course I had no picture to take with me.

I just love your story. I certainly would never ask my DH to buy anything for my sewing. Heaven knows what he would come back with.

Of course, I got a good laugh out of it and even read this to my DH who is off today. He said, "Smart man, he did that so she'll never ask him to do anything like that again." Well if your hubby is anything like mine, then there is an easy way to fix it....I bought an Innovis 1200 awhile back (white one)....oh but a few months later up comes that beautiful Brother 4500D...now when I was in the store they were having this giant sale on the 25th anniversary special 4500D...It was black...So I just couldn't come home with that and have to explain why I needed another machine...soooooo....I asked them if I couldn't have just the regulas 4500D instead (white)...and I swapped it off and went ahead and traded it up....its been over a year and a half and my dh doesn't even know I did that....the moral of the story, w hen you can swap it off and keep praiesing your hubby for his help...JUST don't cut when he is near..hehehehe....good luck deanna

I must also say, for them, mabe they think the bigger the better, excuse the pun. My hubby thinks he is doing GOOD by buying the bigger and more expensive. As long as he pays for it. !!!!!!!

I once did the same thing. I was busy embroiderying away and didn't want to stop the machine in a complicated design. And, I needed more embroidery needles as I was on the last one. So, I asked my husband to go to JoAnn's to buy me needles. I even gave him the empty Schmetz needle case with all the markings on it. I said, "Buy me the exact thing." Well, you guessed it. He didn't. LOL

When I send my husband to pick something up at my dealer for my machine. I call them first and tell them what I want and that he is coming in to pick up. Never had anything wrong yet. He doesn't like going in there, but if he is in the area he will.I don't send him with a list, he will lose it before he gets there.HEHEHE!!!

Gee - What were you thinking! I now send a text to his phone with a shopping list (name, brand, size etc.)and a picture if needed. They may make a cleaner cut being bigger. Be careful using those.

Well I guess I'm in the same boat. My DH sent me to the hardware store to buy a Stilh (Brand Name) leaf blower. He even told me what it would cost. Instead of buying the one he mentioned I thought it would be nice to have a bigger, stronger, and more powerful blower. All he wanted to do was blow the leaves out of the gutters, not take the shingles off the roof LOL

LOL, that reminds me of the story about the woman who sent her husband to the grocery store with a numbered list of items. He came home after shopping with 1egg, 2rolls, 3qrts of milk, 4lettuces, 5hot dogs, etc. When he got home, he asked his wife what she was going to do with five packages of hot dogs since it was only the two of them!

NEVER EVER send a man to do a woman's job. They simply can not cope. I try not to even send mine to the grocery store with a list, he still gets part of it wrong.

Don't be too hard on him. He was just out of his comfort zone. There are stores just for men where they feel comfortable. Hardware,tools and auto parts.The only time I ever see a man in the fabric store is when he is being dragged by a woman . I think they would rather have a root canal. LOL

Do like most said just go there and change them. He will never be the wiser. They probably felt good in his hands and the ones you wanted probably felt too small in his hands. Some think bigger is better or the more expensive the better. Chalk it up and just change them quietly. Suzanne

One time I sent my husband for (3) sausage links (italian sausage) to make some gravy, he came back with 3 pounds of sausage. After that, I now write everything down to be sure he brings exactly what I asked for. He eventually learned his lesson.....
