St Maarten was the saint who shared his belongings with the poor. On this day the children go with a little light to the houses to get some sweet or fruit, but first they have to sing a song.A bit like trick and treat.

Thanks you for this. I have a Dutch family living close to me. We help them celebrate St Nickolas Day buy taking the presents up and leaving them at the front door so the children know St Nickolas has visited. The father is called Maarten

Have you stocked up for tonight? Here the children usually go to the center of the village and skip our street - so I only have a crate of the traditional satsumas.

the weather is very bad now, so the children are walking in the rain and very hard wind. the little lights don't all stay in good condition. But that's all in the game :( so the children don't look that happy as on the picture
