I would use a fabric which is soft, not abrasive, so as to not scratch

Have you thought about using the microfiber toweling that they have now? Very soft and will not scratch - it is what I clearn my PC and monitor screens with.

I measured carefully and slipped in a purchased CD/DVD Sleeve made just for their protection and sewed along the top. The box of 50 says memorex and it had a one dollar price on it. You could also use a soft cloth like flannel well washed to rid it of lint.
