I used linen scrim for the sack (hessian was too coarse) and it has a red satin lining which shows through the weave. The design is cross stitch and the sack contains a bottle of Sloe Gin for my sister.

We like to re-use and recycle! Last year I bought fancy bottles for the sloe gin for each of my sisters and asked them to return them for a refill this year. That means they know what they are getting for Christmas but at least the sack will be a surprise!

What a lovely gift bag. The reds look terrific up the top in particular and shining through. Er..what is 'sloe' -a fruit of some kind? (I'm a big drinker -of coffee, LOL)

Sloes are the fruit of blackthorn. They are like very small damsons and very sour. You prick them, add some sugar and soak them in gin for as long as you can bear it then strain them off. If you have the patience you can then cut the stones out of the sloes and stir them into melted dark chocolate. Let it set and eat as well as drink!
