Now, I have done pillowcases before and never thought much about where to put the design, just did what pleased my eye.

I want to make some very special pillowcases for a Christmas present and I want to know where everyone else puts the designs. Do you center the design ABOVE the hem or embroidery ON the hem? If you do a border, do you make it all the way to the end or just as long or short as you like? Duh! Can't say I didn't warn you! LOL Thanks for all responses

I'm not to smart either BUT..... I would make a template of my design and place this around until I found a place where I liked and take off from there.

Not smart? Sounded like a very smart answer to me!

Both answers below sound good to me. I usually do them centered on the hem though. And, by the way, there are no dumb questions. Otherwise I'd be on the top of the list! :-)

Not sure I know what you mean by a border. Are you saying an embroidery design or fabric? If you mean an embroidery design, then it's your decision. Run it on one side or all the way around or just use a portion of the design. The way I look at it.......it's your pillowcase and you can design it however you like. Share when you get it done. Would love to see the finished product.

I like the first thing you said, do what is pleasing to your eye, it is bound to be the best in the end :)

The only dumb question is the question not asked.

I usually center the design on the hem, that way a face probably isn't going to get into it. If I'm doing a border its usually closer to the hemmed part of the case and just usually on one side. I also try to keep the hem on the case itself toward the top. Hope this help.

I now do my designs on the centre top of my pillowcase as some of my pillow cases I have done the opening down the centre back not the end of the pillow case. this way you don't need to cover the pillow during the day as your lovely design is there to see.

this sounds like a very intellegent question. I have put my designs on the hem area center on one side. Unless it is a border and then along the hem stitching. Good to know what everyone else does.

Here is my pillow. I Also never knew where to place my designs, but I did find that some get lost,so I like to bring the design more to the front. A flat pillowcase is deceiving so test where you would like your design, with the pillow in.

No question is dumb - it helps us to learn. As to the embroidery. I think it is very much personal choice. There will be lots of help coming your way I am sure.
