Looking at this, I'm sure some people could make something similar out of suitable wire & other bits & pieces to do the job for a few dollars.Maybe only the wire would enough

You can buy a thread stand at JoAnns and other places that sits on top of your sewing table and it works great. I have no problem with it. Oh yea it is under $10.00. Sara
