The flowers are just something fun to collect. You give flowers for projects of others, answer questions, participate by posting projects or comment on others projects. You can give thank you flowers to those who comment/answer your questions. Just fun to watch them grow. Here you click on the green flowers and turn the orange. In the project area you click on the orange flowers and turn them gray. Flowers for all!
