That is for the brother machines,to transfer .pes formatted designs. It is not for digitizing.

Jmbeamer1, can I do anything else other than transfer designs with it? Presently I download designs online and transfer them to my machine via USB
by asterixsew 16 Dec 2010
This has the book with all the infomation in it for PE Version 4. With PE des you can transfer designs to the card AND digitise with it
by danababes 16 Dec 2010
PED Basic is Brother's program and dongle to transfer designs to a card - this auction is for PE Design which is digitising software and the dongle (tho as I stated, I'd give this auction a miss). xXx

Thank you Danababes!

It looked to me like the cd was not the original from Brother. Did you notice there is a small card that fits into the embroidery machine and a transfer box for reading/writing to the card. If you send your designs to your computer via usb, then I don't think this would benefit you. PE Design is a digitizing program but I don't know much about it. Think it's overpriced.

This is up to version 4 of PE design. It was then upgraded from the 1 megabitcard to a 4 meg card. The PE design versions now are up to 8 and there is another beyond 8 which is very new - sorry I dont know its name. The picture shows the old reader box and card
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brother-PE-Design-Full-Version-8-Embroidery-Software-/190323047229?pt=UK_Crafts_Embroidery_EH&hash=item2c50233b3d this link shows the current card reader

Did you buy from a dealer, if so does he sell the softwear and would he let you buy in installments?

There are some PE designs for sale on ebay that are far better value than the one you posted. There are times we want something NOW and it is hard waiting. I keep looking for a Brother PR 600, 620 or 650 second hand, I have been waiting for ages BUT I know I will get there eventually. Happy hunting for your PE design

I would be afraid to buy this, I can tell you this is not the original CD that normally comes with the PED Basic my friend has one and it does not look like this one. I would be looking at some other sites first before spending that kind of money. The new one's sell for about $125.00 here in Alabama USA. and I doubt that this one is an up to date one. You cannot digitize with Ped Basic but transfer from computer to a card and then put the card in your embroidery machine. Check other sites on the web and see what kind of price they have for them for a new one. I hope this helps you.

PE Design is Brother's version of digitising software and it requires a dongle to work (the card reader). Both are shown in the photo but the description mentions that the "number of the design is unknown" - Id be a little worried that that means you wont know your CD code/PID (you know the number you sometimes have to enter when installing software like when you install Microsoft products?). I'd give it a miss.

I do use and like PE Design, but there are as many opinions as there are software for digitising (well not really but you know what I mean lol).

If you want to have a go with free digitising software you could try Sophie Sew or Sierra's Stitch Era Universal (this one requires an active internet connection as you view adverts as you work). Embird has a trial version too, but I believe you cant save the designs you create.

Digitising is an art so expect to spend quite a while figuring out which tools do what.

Good luck in your choice :) xXx

Thank you Danababes and thanks for adding the links, I tried Embris and I didnt like it much, as I have a brother machine, I kinda wanted to get the brother software as their tutorials and backu questions are quiet easy to follow. I know Ive a long road ahead of me as far as learing how to digitize, but once Ive found the software I'm looking forward to it!
by danababes 17 Dec 2010
Then I'd suggest asking Santa for PE-Design lol. I like it but yeah, its expensive, however it does all I want it to do :)

Seriously tho, there is a yahoo group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SewItsForSale/
where you can request what you're looking for, you're more likely to find an older version for sale, but you're also more likely to get what you want at a price that might suit you better then buying new. :) I'm still using PED6 but like I say it does all I ask. There are also digitising groups on Yahoo to help you along your way when learning to digitise. xXx

It's an old version of PE-design with the reader/writer unit to write to an embroidery card. You don't need that if you have an USB. The old version of the software might not run on Vista or later, so I would not buy it if I were you.

Dont think I will mops! And as you say I use the USB so it looks like I dont need this particular one!!!

Thanks, hugs and flowers to you all for answering my question! Am I correct in saying that

PED BASIC is for transfering designs onto the embroidery card only.

PE DESIGN is for transfering designs onto the embroidery card AND digitising.

I don't have PED Basic. I do have an early version of PE Design it goes up to pes 5.6. You can digitize with it.
by hightechgrammy 17 Dec 2010
YOU ARE RIGHT. Ped Basic transfers designs onto the embroiery card only.
PE design is for transferring designs onto the embroidery cards and for digitizing. I use PE Design 5 and I do everything just fine in it. You can often buy it on ebay, but even as old as it is, it is still expensive. You have to have a dongle to use it.

That is a digitizing set up . Probably version 4 .The version 2 does require a dongle but the upgrade does away with that . I have gone from the version 2 through the 6 I now have . Changing boxes and cards along the way. It is correct to say that it may not run on the vista, mine did not . Had to get an upgrade . Must say , I did get that on ebay. Though it did include the original cd . There is a store that these people run out of. May contact them and ask about that .

Beth, thank you, if you could give me the name if that store I would appreciate it!

I think she meant that the person doing the ebay auction is actually a store so you could just email the ebay seller.

If its PED Basic you can not use it on windows Vista, you will need PE-Basic instead. Had to return and reorder becasue the sales girl did not know this and after spending days dealing with Brother found out this is not ungradable to Vista. Even though they have a link on their eeb site, it would not work for me.

I have PED Basic it is for transferring designs from pc to the machine, I have Vista and i was able to dl the program, You can not use the CD that comes with the kit, instead go to Brother solution center and dL from it I have Embird it is around 180 dollars, and you could buy plug ins step by step, they have a 30 days free DL you may want to try it, it is not as expensive as the PE Design
