You didn't do anything wrong, sometimes they just don't show the right colors. I almost always just do a design in whatever color suits my needs at the time. Welcome to cute, you will love it here, everyone is so helpful!

First of all Welcome to Cute. Glad you have you here and hope to see more of you in the future, Think you'll really like it here. I dl that santa and my colors were way off too but since I knew what the design was supposed to be about I used the colors that would work and it turned out great.

WELCOME TO CUTE. You already have good answers. I do the same. I change the colors if I don't like the ones it tells me.

Probably the software used to create the design was not the same software you opened the design with. Different software products interpret the colors differently. Change them to the colors needed. You didn't do anything wrong, it's a software issue.

I usually copy and paste the color chart or digitizers chosen colors into notepad. I don't see the colors but it states the thread (Maderia Rayon) and the number. I have a book and color charts that I can use as a reference. This is just in case I can't eyeball the design and figure out the color myself. I also save a copy of the picture of the design to use as reference.

Nothing at all. My software often decides to make up the colours for it's self. As others have said I take a copy of the colour charts from the site I get the design from - and then change it myself if I think that's what needed. ( I downloaded a lovely design of a lady and she was GREEN knew that could not be correct!!)
PS Don't be a slave to the suggested and yes they are only suggested colours try your own, you will find the finished result of the embroidery can be really delightful.
