I embroider all my cards for the past 7 years. I make over 100 a year for family and friends. I buy Photo Frame Cards at the craft store (instead of sliding a photo in I insert an embroidery. This way I get to try all different designs, just make sure the design will fit in the opening of the card. Reduce the design if necessary. I like to embroider on cross stitch fabric because of the weight and body of the fabric, spray starch, press from the back with press cloth and insert in card opening and glue shut.

I embroider lots of cards and use almost anything that comes to hand! Sometimes on handmade paper which is the glued to a blank card, cometimes directly onto the card. Really fancy ones on paper doilies (see below). Its a great medium to experiment in as it is quick and cheap!

I have used different types of paper with success. I have had better luck with a "sharp" needle and less dense designs and pretty heavy cardstock. I purchased some window cards like sweatshop44 and will try them soon.

This year I did a "card" where I appliqued fabric to polar fleece as a base then did a polar bear applique on top of that and at the end put a piece of cardstock under the fleece and a piece of fleece over that (so it was a bit stiff like a card but nice on the back) and did a satin stitching around the edge to finish it off (then trimmed the fleece around the edge). They came out really nice. I glued a greeting to the back to finish the "card".

I did FSL themes and added them on the front of the card sometimes with ribbon or brads. Used glue dots to keep them in place this way they can become a ornament in the future.

I have stitched many different embroidered cards over the years and have used anything from paper to cardstock - I have purchased notecards made especailly for embroidery work through www.dzgns.com & have even seen these for sale on shoppersrule.com and everyone loves those, too.

And a very Happy & Blessed New Year to you!! I have made Christmas & birthday cards and it is so much fun. I keep the stitch count down, nothing too dense as to tear up the paper, and have used handmade paper and scrapbook paper as well.

Hi and Happy New year too. The only card that I've made was a 'Get Well'. It had an embroidered Pink (breast cancer) Ribbon. I didn't know if I could manage to do it on the card so I cut around the embroidery with pinking shears and glued it on to a card - looked nice and had personal touch. xx V

A Very Happy New Year to You too! I haven`t done embroidered Christmas cards only a few birthday cards. I have thought that - maybe for next Christmas?!

I live in UK. I have made embroidered cards for many years, both for Christmas, birthdays and other events for family and friends.<br /><br />I usually use thin felt and then mount the designs in an apperture card, but just lately I have been trying some designs using thick vilene, the type used for interfacing furnishings, and then cutting out the design with decorative edging scissors or pinking shears, and sticking the design onto a single-fold card. This creates a new dimension, and provided the stitches in the design are not too dense, works very well. I have also used it in apperture cards and I think I prefer it to felt.<br /><br />I always put an inner sheet of paper inside the card, and on this I can decorate with peel-offs saying Happy Christmas or whatever, and then writing my message in the usual way.<br /><br />Hope this helps and don't be afraid to have a go. I have made my own cards for sometime now. I use my own pictures and then embellish with a frame or FSL, or some other item on the front.

In a vaguely similar theme, a few years ago, I made FSL bells with photo windows for a childs class teacher and inserted pics of 4 children. One could do those for the window of a photo card and just use one -then that can become a deco later.

I made some paper years ago before I got so keen on machine embroidery. I'd like to do it again, and use some scraps of thread within the paper to make use of thread ends and make the paper prettier. Could probably keep a separate stock of Christmas coloured waste thread for this.

happy 2011 to you too. I always make my own Xmascards but I confess: no embroidered card. Perhaps I will this year.but I send so many ,so I will not promise to do so.

I did a few special ones but I do find that you need to pick design that does not have too many stitches. It is great fun. Good luck. Sarah.
